Good evening from Greece. My name is Nikos and I love music. I would say that in a few days I will have the Lyra Etna in my hands and I will put on my new turntable.
My system is composed of this turntable: Thorens TD 550 with tonearm SME V.
Phono stage, ASR Basic Exlusive Elkos, 40 V.
LoudSpeakers, Sonus Faber Olympica 2.
Integrated amplifier in Mcintosh MA-7900.
I would like your opinion on my system, and for the choice of Cardrige Lyra Etna.
Do you think I made a mistake somewhere in the Building of my system? I need something to change?
Thank you very much.
The featured the Phono Stage are these:

I love my Etna.

Hi Jock. I just got an Etna as well. Can you tell me how it sounded during break-in and how long it took (mine's all over the map in the first 20 hrs). Also what cartridge resistance loading are you using and do you know your input capacitance (cables & phono stage)?

Oh, I love the Oregon Coast. UofO graduate. Out there last fall. Regards, Barry

I'm not sure on the break in as I had a new phono stage at the same time. I'm guessing 50 hrs or so? That's when the combo stabilized - no clue which did what during the process.

My wife and I have season tix to the Ducks games even tho neither of us ever attended there. Great campus!

Barry, I don't know if this helps, but I use the Lyra Erodion SUT with the Etna with superb results. If you can figure out what it's specs are, that will answer some of your questions. I mean it's designed for Lyra's low impedance cartridges. The phono stage of my Giscours is probably like most other phono stage in regards to the 47K input for the Erodion to look at.

I probably have 75 hours on mine and I still think it can be all over the map.

I have had an Etna for over a year, probably around 500hrs of use. Probably the most natural and revealing cartridge I have ever heard, just love it for any kind of music. It did improve in the first hours but never saw any major shift in sound in the initial hours. Input resistance is set at 243 ohms and currently using Graham Phantom Supreme arm , Nordost Valhalla for tonearm cable and Aesthetix IO sig as phono stage. She has to be setup perfectly to sing though, I was lucky to have final setup done by Stirling Trayle at http://www.audiosystemsoptimized.com/ . Stirling was reviewed by Roy Gregory from The Audio Beat by the way, review at http://www.theaudiobeat.com/equipment/audio_systems_optimized.htm .

Bill Dan And Jock thanks for your advice. I'm going to stick with somewhat lower loading based on what I'm hearing and your advice Dan. Undoubtedly need more setup work too.

Varadero, Welcome!
