Lyngdorf ?

The 3400 replaced a Schiit Yggdrasil DAC + Ayre pre + Benchmark amp combo.
My 3400 doesn't have the optional HQ analog module, but I may get it to see if there's any benefit to adding the Yggdrasil back in. I do like that Schiit.
Bass definitely improved with Room Perfect. The soundstage is maybe not quite as big now, but it's asking a lot to top that previous combo, which cost more than twice the Lyngdorf. It has a noise floor equal to or better than the combo; detail retrieval is also good.
Haven't played around with Voicing yet. It seems complex, but I'll try to figure it out one of these days. Also, haven't explored its file streaming capability... still using my Bryston for that.
The 3400 can be controlled by the remote, or an iPad app. The volume adjustment is silent, which I like. Would prefer if it came in a silver finish.
I have a bunch of unused cables now!

Believe me, I wondered if I was nuts to replace $25,000 of electronics with the Lyngdorf! I found I liked the Lyngdorf DAC, so I sold the PS Audio Directstream. I'm using a Bryston BDP-2 as well. I use the Bryston as a Roon Endpoint and output via USB (I bought the WyWires Silver USB cable) to the Lyngdorf. I notice that you're using the AES connection with your's. I have a number of DSD recordings on my hard drive and the USB plays them back nicely but AES will not. I don't know if you're familiar with Roon but the Bryston does function as a Endpoint player as does the Lyngdorf. The Roon architecture requires that you have a "Core" to store the Roon software, an Endpoint to play, and the Remote can be your Iphone, Ipad, or another computer on your network. For best results you need to have an ethernet cable attached (the Lyngdorf can connect wirelessly and function as an endpoint but higher resolution playback is limited). I THINK the Bryston is better as a player but I'm considering one of the Innuos players that combine the Core and Endpoint into one unit (Antipodes also has a player that does that but it's a lot more expensive). I've also had fun streaming some internet radio stations with the Lyngdorf's VTuner. A favorite station is Radio Paradise.
I bought both the optional HDMI module and Analog module. I output via HDMI from my Oppo to the Lyngdorf. It plays CD, SACD, and even DVDA flawlessly. I don't know if it's outputting the streams from the Oppo without conversion but the Lyngdorf front panel says it is! I have a VPI Classic One and Sutherland 20/20 phono preamp and I output into the optional Lyngdorf Analog module. It's my understanding that this module then samples the analog signal and creates a 24/96 digital stream. It sounds very good to my ears, maybe not as good as the Mark Levinson it replaced but the Room Correction has really enhanced the bass management and room issues to create overall better sound.
Yes, like you I've sold $600 of now unneeded cables! I do use an Equi=Core 1800 power conditioner and Pangea power cables and my speaker cables are Purist Audio Design Museaus.
I know that a big stack can look cool but I'm just enjoying the music now with my simpler system!

Yes, thanks, I did know that the Bryston is Roon ready. I don't have any DSD files; I just have a solid state drive connected by USB to the BDP-2, controlled with the iPad using Soundirok / Rigelian.
It was kind of a toss-up on which I prefer with AES/EBU or coax-BNC. The differences are slight.
I did try feeding the Yggdrasil into the Lyngdorf, but it was not a real test since I couldn't use balanced cables, and it wasn't the HQ analog module. (Didn't add any of the optional modules when I ordered.)

Follow-up to the above ^
I bought the HQ analog module; it was easy to install. So now the 3400 has not only a better analog input circuit, but also balanced inputs.
I hooked up the Yggdrasil using XLR cables and am breaking in the module, as well as re-breaking-in the DAC (since it was unused for a couple months). The 3400 is still doing pre, amp, and room correction functions.
Initial impressions are that I recovered some of that dimensionality /soundstage / magic that I thought I lost, while retaining the improved bass.
It seems nonsensical, converting digital to analog, then back to digital for Room Perfect, but to these ears it seems to work. The Schiit DAC is a seriously good piece of gear. I read on another forum a while back that another Lyngdorf user also used a separate DAC with good results, so I'm not the only one...
