Lumin D1

I bought Lumin D1 replacing NAD M51 + Squeezebox for my office setup.
I am happy with the SQ improvement and Lumin app is much better than Squeezebox app or Marantz app.

I updated Lumin application on my Ipad1 (1st gen) several times without a problem.
But the last update available on Apple Store doesn't work well with my Ipad1.
Lumin app always crash within seconds. I did try to reboot the Ipad and also uninstall /re-install the app but get the same problem. It seems Ipad1 doesn't have enough resources to run latest version of Lumin app. So if you are still using Ipad1, you may get the same problem.
But if you use Ipad2 onward it should be fine.

I just send an email to Lumin, hopefully they have a solution. Temporary solution is rollback to previous version but unfortunately previous version of Lumin app is no longer available in Apple Store.

I was reading on CA and the latest Lumin Version 5.0.3 is supposed to address the crash, but not sure about 1st gen iPad.

Hi Chris, thanks for your info. I just read the forum. It seems Lumin app v5.0.3 solve the crash problem with newer Ipad. Newer Ipad got problem with previous version while it works just fine with Ipad1.

I only use my stereo on Friday and Saturday. This past weekend I noticed the app wasn't crashing, and saw it was at 5.0.3. I use the first iPad Mini Retina with the latest IOS.

I have 5.0.3. Used my S-1 extensively through the weekend and into yesterday. No issues whatsoever. I have an IPad Air with iOS 8.4.1.

I haven't had any problems either. On my S1 or D1 using latest IPads.

I guess the issue was with the 5.0.2 software. It would just crash, crash, and crash again. The funny part is it crashed when idle. I never had it crash in use, but if I sat the iPad down, looked away, and looked back later then it would be crashed. That is why this past weekend I was surprised when it didn't crash. Apparently, 5.0.3 came out during the week, and automatically installed. Love that feature.

Hello All -

I just purchased a Lumin D1 and was wondering about replacing the power supply with an off-the-shelf unit. What do you guys recommend? Ken Lau's unit appears to be very nice, but a little to rich for me right now.

Also if anyone can recommend a NAS and external DAC for later down the road. I am mostly a vinyl guy, and this is my first venture into computer audio and streaming.

Many regards - and glad to be junior member in your community.

For the D1 power supply, it needs to be 12V 2.5A or above (original is 4.16A) with a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug. I know a D1 owner is happy with a Chinese brand that's available from ebay, but I don't know really know how it performs.

You can use the computer to run the free MinimServer without having to buy an NAS immediately. When you decide to buy one, Lumin offers L1, and there are many choices from both Synology and Qnap - make sure you choose a model that is supported by MinimServer:

D1 already has its own built-in DAC. Use the XLR output if your setup supports it.

Thanks - this is good info to know starting out.

Any recommendations for a specific power supply (12V 2.5A) that will be an upgrade over the one that comes with the Lumin D1.

Got my Lumin D1 yesterday - and so far I am impressed. It is much smaller and lighter than the A1 I auditioned at my dealer, but I believe I am not losing much in functionality and/or sound quality. Ordered a Synology NAS with 3TD drive today based on Wklie's recommendation. And I am also thinking of ordering a Teddy Pardo Powder supply for the D1. . . . .Anyone have experience with it?

Thanks

Welcome to AS Cal. You will love the Lumin! I would suggest using dbpoweramp for your ripping needs, it works great.

Thanks Mark

I do love my Lumin. It's easy to use and does not sound digital.

I decided to burn my CDs with my iMac desktop. It's on my network via wifi. I am using a Synology NAS connected to my Verizon router. Everything works as it should, with the exception of getting the Lumin to load the artwork for the CDs I have ripped so far. iTunes downloads the artwork and I see it on my iMac, but not the Lumin interface.
[h=1][/h]BTW, purchased a Teddy Pardo power supply based on a recommendation from an online reviewer. Can't wait to hear the improvement it makes.

Cal.
