Anyone wanting to jump into the Lumin waters can now with the very affordable and yet, still outstanding, Lumin D1. The Lumin D1 has been a tremendous success in Asia and now is available here in the U.S.!!

MSRP is $2000.

Rance - the D1 is definitely the baby Lumin. The starting point. But sonically and Price-Per-Performance, the trial run in Asia was a HUGE success for Lumin. It was such a success, that for almost a year, we couldn't get D1 inventory in North America even if we wanted it! Lumin manufacturing has caught up to the demand and have given us a nice supply for sale here in the U.S.

The D1's power supply is still external. It uses the more "analog sounding" DAC Chip - Wolfson WM8741 and handles DSD 64.

You get to use the same great Lumin app and get a good chunk of the big Lumin's sound for a reasonable price.

I would consider the D1 a "baby A1". No, it won't go toe-to-toe with the A1, but for individuals shopping in the $1500-2500 price range, its a tremendous value.

How does the D1 differ from the A1? Looks like no separate power supply for one thing.

D1 uses dual Wolfson WM8741 DAC chips like A1 and T1, so it supports the same music formats (including DSD64), same upsampling features (e.g. real time PCM -> DSD conversion), and same software features (e.g. Gapless playback, AirPlay, Tidal, Tune-in, etc.) as A1/T1 and retains both the balanced and unbalanced outputs as well as the digital output. Different from A1/T1, D1 uses a single board design, is thus physically smaller, drops the high-cost Lundahl output transformers and drops the HDMI output. It comes with an entry level external 12V power supply (that can be replaced easily by off-the-shelf units).

Nice. This is a good incentive for people to drop CD players.

However, I sure wish Lumin would add an iPhone app. I hate using the iPad Mini as as remote. Mostly I create and run a playlist on random shuffle. I want to see what is playing, how long is left, and occasionally select a different song or playlist.

I asked Li (Lumin) if the Lumin external supply could be used, he said nope.

D1 power supply is a standard external 12V DC with a 5.5mm plug, different from the A1 / T1 / S1 power supplies.

Just think if that D1 connection was a.k.a A1 like, just think Lumin could sell a few external power supplies :scholar: $$$

Good thinking :exciting:. On the other hand, a standard connector and standard voltage also facilitates the use of off the shelf linear power supplies as upgrade options.
