Lumin bug

Yesterday I downloaded two Neil Young albums, and copied them to my direct attached USB drive. For two reasons, I always power off the Lumin when I remove the drive. One, just to be safe, and two, to cleanup memory leaks.

After reattaching the drive and powering on, the Lumin only shows 8 of the 16 tracks on the Live Rust album. I tried powering off/on the system to reload, it that didn't help. I then checked my backup drive, but did not power off the Lumin. This drive showed all 16 tracks. I then reattached the original drive, and now all 16 tracks display.

I have to admit that this bug makes me nervous since I now wonder if any other folder is missing files.

My previous file player and app had an option to refresh and/or reload all files. I cannot find that option on the Lumin app. Any help here is appreciated. :)

What's the file system format of the drive that showed less tracks than it should? FAT32 or NTFS?

Windows Explorer: Computer -> Right click the drive -> Properties -> General tab - File System field

I could update the NTFS support in a future firmware, hopefully it works better for you.

As for the NTFS compression, do NOT use it!

I just downloaded the just released Rolling Stones album, Blue and Lonesome, and this bug is back. The Lumin only shows 8 of the 12 tracks.

I cannot take these bugs anymore. Does anyone recommend another file player with a built in DAC? I like that concept since it saves me 3-5K in cables.

Try doing another refresh on minimserver. The songs may not have finished completely downloading. Check that the songs have all downloaded using explorer.

Good point. It might be a timing issue. I finally saw all 12 tracks after numerous swaps and power cycles. This is a great album if you like the Blues side of the Stones.

It's to me easily the best Stones work since the Mick Taylor era and Exile. My wife has been a faithful supporter of the band but I kind of listened and ignored them after that. The hiring of Ron Woods signaled a steady decline. Also if you want to abandon the Lumin world the only product I am familiar with similar is the Auralic Altair. You will have a voicing difference though due to the different DAC chip manufacturers.

Glad it worked. Sounds like the HD could be going bad (therefore, its not the Lumin). I still recommend a simple Synology NAS for so many reasons. I think most of your issues will go away (notice now there are hundreds of Lumin's out there, but every week, you're having issues?). I really think a simply 3, 4 or 5 bay Synology NAS would solve so much and give you backup piece of mind.

Or a Lumin L1

In the upper right hand corner of the Lumin screen there is the "gear symbol". Tap on that and it reveals a number of options. One of which is Music Library MininServer Options. Tap on that and then you see:

MinimServer Rescan
Reload Music Library and
Update Music Library

I usually just do a Rescan periodically, but is it advisable to do an occasional Update of the Music Library as well?

I'm in my upper 50's and I to get digital paralysis whenever something goes wrong or doesn't function properly. Usually I wind up re-booting everything and that mostly solves the problem.

That's pretty much what I do, and ps, I'm now as of Thanksgiving in my middle freaking 60's and I hate computers. :D.

Short answer: not necessary, but there is no harm if you do it.

Long answer:

MinimServer Rescan is required for any addition or changes to the music library. Whenever you don't see some album you expect, do it. This is part of normal operations.

Lumin app automatically detects MinimServer database changes and updates its own local cache/copy. This should not fail at all, but if it does, one may try Update Music Library or even Reload Music Library to fix problems not already fixed by MinimServer Rescan. These are not normally required.

I am good at finding bugs. That's why I can afford to buy this stuff. USB direct attached drives are supported, so they should work. Apple IOS is supported, so it should work, aside from the bugs Apple creates.

From NTFS USB HDD again?

Yes. I only have the one Lumin. The playlist is over 700 songs, and the 500GB drive is getting close to full. Time to buy a 1TB drive. Or quit buying music. I already have more than I can listen to. :)

A firmware with updated NTFS support is sent to you via PM. Please see if it helps.
