Hello everyone,

I’ve been trying out the LUMIN app on my iPad and came across a problem with the controls on the top of the screen. I can start playing an album or track but somehow the controls can’t be used to stop, go to next or previous. I’ve tried the app on both an iPad and iPhone and both had the same problem.

A screen grab is attached (sorry I had to crop & rotate it to show on the post) -

My system consists the following - MinimServer on iMac, Ethernet connection through a switch to an SoTM sMS 200 then a txUSBultra and finally to a Bricasti M1 DAC. The sotm is configured for UPnP/dlna. I don’t know if the LUMIN app is meant to be used this way. I can play albums and tracks and my MinimServer library appears after it’s scanned by the app.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

As the SoTM is not specifically a Lumin supported device like those from Teac or Esoteric what features of the Lumin App that work or don't are going to be hit or miss. If you don't want to use Roon, I don't, your best bets are mconnect or JPlay for IOS.

Hello Jack,

Thanks for the quick response. I stumbled upon the LUMIN app after browsing a few forums on MinimServer. I wondered if the app worked with non LUMIN devices. You’ve answered my question😀

I have Roon installed and even though it has a nice interface, its sound presentation seems constrained in some way. I much prefer the sound from MinimServer which led me down the path of finding a compatible control point. It’s a pity MinimServer are not interested in developing a user interface to their excellent server. I tried, am in fact using JPlay as I compose this reply. It is very good in many ways but I noticed some problems with it and am hoping Marcin and gang are able to analyse it and provide a fix before I pay up for a subscription. It also has quite a confusing interface and many of my albums seem to be missing or filed incorrectly (it’s probably my metadata - but with about 2500 albums it would be a time consuming job correcting them). Roon for all its faults does this quite well.

I also tried Mconnect. It definitely has many "faults" or rather peculiarities that I frankly don’t have the time to learn.

I think I will persist with JPlay and see how things turn out in a few months. My subscription for Roon ends in a week or so and I’m definitely not renewing it.

Thanks again.

MinimServer is a UPNP mediaserver and any upnp control point app can use it in the right way.
It all depends on the quality of the control point app. You can choose the one you prefer.
A well developed control point app is able to work with Minimserver at its best, this is true with Lumïn, Linn, JPlay for iOS and there is non need of a specific Minimserver control point app.

Could you please elaborate a little bit deeper which problems are you facing with JPlay for iOS?
I’m using both Lumïn app and JPlay for iOS (with Minimserver and SOtM sms200) and I find that they are both very well designed, but JPlay for iOS can have some flaws as there are some settings that are a bit “hidden” and some “undisclosed” Minimserver settings are needed to have working at its best (for example a Minimserver Full License is needed to be able to configure it to work with JPlay as the developer intended)

I have 11k albums library fully tagged and it’s a real pleasure browse my library … at the cost of a well planned tagging procedure and no more than 5’ for each album to do it.
It must be clear that a good tagging process is the basis of a digital library management.

Hello Stefano,

Nothing I've said in my previous post is meant as a criticism or anything negative about MinimServer. All I meant was that since MinimServer is such a great piece of software, I am almost certain you can come up with a control point that will best anything else out there😀 I understand however, that you want to concentrate on the server and not spread you resources (time etc) too thinly.

About JPlay - I've actually been in touch with the JPlay team regarding my problem. When playing an album, a track will play, then JPlay will lose track of where it's at. Almost all the time the next track will play and yet JPlay will continue reporting that it's playing the previous track. I have also observed that the track get repeated and then the next track plays and JPlay will report the correct track being played this second time round, but, on moving on to the next track it reports that its still playing the previous track.

I am attaching an example screen grab.IMG_1538.PNG

The image shows that track #4 "Presto" is playing but in fact I know the next track "Pastorale in C minor" is actually being streamed.

The user guide for JPlay is a little thin(!), perhaps you can help? How can I clear the queue in JPlay?

Thanks.

Stephen

Didn’t want to be “rude” at all, I was just trying to explain …
To access the queue tap on the queue icon (the one in the bottom right side of the app, with 8 displayed in your screenshot) and tap on the three dots icon in upper right corner, you’ll be prompted with the available choices to manage the queue, if you slide to left once more you’ll access the radio function where you enable/disable it.
About the issue related to the actual playing track it never happened to me, but you can check how is the configuration of your sms200 in the JPlay app: go to settings, tap on the sms200 and check that the configuration is like the one in my screenshot (here everything works fine)
