I love music but I am not a musician by any stretch of the word.
I tried band in school. My last name starts with a "W" and by the time I got to pick an instrument the only thing left was a french horn.
I practiced on it for a month at which time my parents politely asked me to maybe look into another interest besides playing a musical instrument.
Today I had a friend over to audition some gear in my system.
He is an accomplished pianist and can competently play several other instruments.
While playing several songs, he proceeded to narrate along with the music, that which a musician hears and listens for. Such as timing, cues for bringing in other musicians and or changes in tempo and many other insights.
For me it was very informative and provided a new perspective on these live recordings and something to listen for in the future.
If you have a musician friend that can enlighten and guide you into their world of hearing music it would be highly recommended..
