Lies, Damn Lies, and Audio Gear Specs

The last two threads I started; 1. Older 2000 article about some audio myths. And 2. This thread right here.
...They both were referred as controversy started by me.

And another thread before; about AC power cords, ...was also viewed by some people as a negative opinion about cables and all that jazz.

I couldn't bring some facts because I made a deal to not EVER use other site's links. So I simply regretted to have started something that pissed some people royally off. ...About cables. No more ever! And I'm out of here.

These people are always going to be disappointed because their beliefs about the superior performance of expensive and exotic cables and power cords fly in the face of sound science and engineering. The engineers at McIntosh chuckle when they read how the addition of an fancy power cord plugged into a conditioner improves the performance of their amplifiers over the standard power cord plugged directly into the wall socket.

Bob, it's an internet forum for God's sake, no 'sane' person should EVER get that bent out of shape let alone take things that personal. I don't know you but I hope you're tougher skinned than that ! …..Stick around !!

Bob, I learned a long time ago to stand up to bullies. I can't understand how anyone could file a lawsuit over anything said on a public forum. Yes, there are a few egotistical brash personalities on this site, but to cave to them is not a more enlightened approach. Sometimes it takes courage to stand up for yourself and your opinions; especially if it's in public.

Dave, people get banned on Internet audio forums just for expressing their opinion! ...You know that just as I do.
Story of my life....

And people get misinterpreted every single day by the tens of thousands, and everywhere!

Yes I'm taking it very personal because that's the way some people want me to take it as.

Hi Steve,

AudioShark is miles ahead in some aspects over other audio forums.
All the members (active ones) here are all fantastic and true friendly humans from planet Earth. :)

Me I love everyone, even the ones I don't know. And in particular my enemies, because they speak their mind clearly from the underground. There is no mistaking in their rising voice from the dark and sinister/tenebrous confinements of the underworld.

Actually I think that you would also find that the specs for a car radio and many high-end amplifiers are the same also. Don't see many car radios driving home audio speakers, even if they are horns.

The specs are actually different (from most), the applications (environment) totally different, and the measurements I bet are too. ...Between car audio, home audio, and pro audio (live music concerts).

And you can't compare actual listening from inside a car's interior with inside a home's room; acoustically treated or not.

Why is someone so technical betting? Actually the figures have been posted many times so no need to guess, only look it up. Distortion figures are the same for car radios and audio gear. That's a fact Jack!

Thanks to AP for this:

If specifications tell all, will amplifier A or amplifier B perform better on a 4 ohm speaker?

Amplifier A
Two channel @ 40 WPC at 4 Ohms.
Response 20 Hz to 20 KHz @ less than 1% THD.
Signal to noise greater than 94 DB
Damping factor >400 @ 4 Ohm

Amplifier B
Two channel @ 32 WPC at 4 Ohms.
Response 20 Hz to 20 KHz @ less than 5% THD.
Signal to noise greater than 86 DB
Damping factor 2.58 @ 4 Ohms

BOB,

Regarding your posts and threads you have started, the truth shall make us free.

Keep at it.

Answer:

Amplifier A is a class AB Kenwood for cars, about $99.00.

Amplifier B is tube Lamm, about $13K

Bet the Kenwood sounds better since the specifications are so superior.

Gary, you know that I always loved you and that I always will. :)

But man! Sometimes it is just so tough to have some of my enemies pursuing the impossible dream! :D ...You know what I mean.

And I was there, and over there, and here now, and I've been happy, sad, there, over there and here now.

And Ethan, you too I love you very much, and you know that already. :) ...It's the people who despise you who also despise me.

I think it's about time this witch hunt & poor me thread got tidied up along with the rest of the business that needs doing. There is a huge amount of disrespect creeping in here, mods, bring out the riot gear!

Kev - you are right. There have been far too many threads started for the purpose of creating controversy , resulting in hurt feelings and bad blood rather than creative discussion.

I will close the thread. I've had more than enough complaints. The unfortunate job of being the judge and jury.
