Nelson, I would love to get a hold of that amp.
Will it be a regular production amp or a one off.
Hi Nelson,There is a very limited number of those parts. I suppose that Sony
could get them made, but I'm uncertain that it would make sense for
them to do.
I have enjoyed the concept of Steampunk, that vision of alternative
history as exampled by something like Gibson/Sterling in The Difference
Engine.
Anyway, for me it is simply art, and you know I will keep a few...
Hi Nelson,
Registered just to reply to this with a suggestion (which might open some interesting prospects). VFETs are still in limited/dedicated production, Digital do MaiN makes them for their own amps (which do sound absolutely wonderful), and while I do not know if they would be interested in offering them to other amp manufacturers, one would think that in doing so, the production of scale would benefit Digital do MaiN as well.
Regards,
Adrian

I had an offer from Japan for the 2SK77B power devices and the other SITs used in the Digital Domain amplifiers,
and I did receive a small quantity. I understand that they were made by Tokin, and it appears that Digital Do
Main received a fixed quantity (probably enough to sustain production and/or repair work for quite a while) and
there were still a few hundred parts available. The price of the remaining parts was very high, but the story I
received when I inquired as to larger quantities was that the earthquake had damaged this Tokin production line
and there were not plans to rebuild it.
I have not personally heard the Digital Do Main amplifiers, but I can tell you that they are very fine transistors,
honking big chips mounted in hockey pucks rated at 300 watts. I plan to use my small stock on a private run of
amplifiers later this year.
In addition to these, the Sony parts and the SIT-1 devices I had made by SemiSouth, I am awaiting arrival of
some samples from China.
Thank you for the additional info and clarifications, Nelson. That's good and bad news as well. I hope they sort out the production issue somehow, it would be a pity to see digital do MaiN end production and drop out of the market (I suppose the limited availability of the parts is why they stopped exporting to Europe). I absolutely loved the B-1d and I can't say I've heard another SS Amp that can successfully compete with a top notch 211/845 tube counterpart. Digging a little deeper into it, I understand that Maxonic and Fal amps were/are build with the same Tokin parts, so maybe there's hope for restarting production.I had an offer from Japan for the 2SK77B power devices and the other SITs used in the Digital Domain amplifiers,
