Ki Choi Talking About Reel-to-Reel Tape Machines

Great videos of a great guy. Ki has accumulated alot of knowledge about rtr decks, and the maintenance of decks, in an unassuming and generous character. He has shared his expertise with many, including myself, even though he is not interested in the commercial side of things but remains a dedicated hobbyist.

Only word I (and Ki) might disagree with is dedicated! :) Way beyond that!

It would be great to have Ki posting on AS. He is a good soul that does whatever he can to help people with tape deck issues.

Myles, thanks for sharing. Ki talks about the contribution of "doc b", Dan Schmalle to the revival of the audiophile interest in tapes. I have the first conversion that Bottlehead did of a Technics 1500, also with the Bottlehead Prepro and remote, now about 5 years old.

I've known Ki for a long time. He is both knowledgeable and very generous with his knowledge and time. I think he also has a most understanding wife. Glad he doesn't collect floor standing speakers or cars.

Yes, i agree completely. Words "encyclopedic, passionate, and obsessive" (in all the best ways) are probably better descriptions ;)

Hi Guys

Thanks for your kind words about me.

Myles brought me here. I had not been to the other place for a while but see this is where all the boys hang out!

I have reformed or started to...

Plan to trim down the tape machine collection and get into the other danger area of playing the black discs.

Thanks,
Ki

Ki,

Welcome to the forum and thank you sooooo much for joining!!!!

Ki,
Great to see you here at AShark!
As one of those lucky to have benefitted from your tape deck reduction through my purchase of your surplus nagra t audio, i know we will learn much from your posts. Hope your journey into vinyl is rewarding. :)

Good to see you here!

Pray tell Ki. What table (s) you looking at? :)

Awesome post! Valuable information as a Studer A810 owner. :congrats:

Welcome Ki!!!

I would like to focus a little less on vinyl & more on tape. I do not have much tape software ATM & need to work on this. (I have the Opus3 sets coming!) Also would like to start dubbing my own recordings (from my vinyl collection) for my own personal convenience. Feel free to PM if you are trimming down.
