JR 625 S2 to 725 S2

Hello Richard,

per the specs, M725 S2 monos are marginally more powerful than M625 S2 stereo, with M725 S2 generating a maximum of 330W/8 and 640W/4, while the M625 S2 is just a little below at 325W/8 and 600W/4.

More interesting, is the damping factor, where M725 S2 is even better capable than M625 S2 to control difficult speaker loads.... Monos damping factor is 500, while M625 S2 is 200.

But much more relevant is that in M625 S2 there is a single 1500W power supply which serves both channels, while in each M725 S2 the 1500W power supply serves only a single channel... So, what you can expect with M725 S2 is greater authority, stage and image expansivity, and general ease in the audible presentation than M625 S2.

Your post is very timely.... Happens that Galen Carol in your fair city of San Antonio has a pair of M725 S2 available, which have just been upgraded from the original M725.... Yes, in case you asked, upgrading the original M725 to S2 status makes it identical to an amp that was born as M725 S2.

Yes, I already talked to Galen and told him I will purchase the 725s. I have my 625 S2 listed for sale and hope to sell it soon.

My true dilemma is should I sell my 625 S2 for 725 S2 mono-amps or add two more REL G1 mkII subwoofers(dual stacks of two). Which options would have more impact?

What are your speakers?

Rowland amps aren’t where you look if you want prodigious bass. Great amps, but aren’t bass kings.

My speakers are Monitor Audio PL500 IIs. When I say more "impact", I'm not referring to bass, but overall improvement. My goal, assuming the recording allows it, is to go to the next level of spacing between instruments within the soundstage. So, do I change from my 625 S2 to 725s, add two more REL G1s, or is there another way forward?

They have a nice tweeter. I would be looking at a Hegel H30 or Boulder 1160.

"Yes and the 735’s are $39k, right?"
Mike I'm not saying the Boulder 1160 isn't at another level compared to the JR 625 S2. I'm simply saying that they are at different price points. I'm not a fan boy of any particular manufacturer. I just try to get what works for me within my budget. I do have a couple of questions, so I'm sending you a PM.
