Many years ago when my wife and I were teens, she asked her parents for an album that ended up being very controversial for it's time. At the same time, the theatrical release and soundtrack are probably more responsible for keeping a younger generation interested and involved with their churches than anything else.
Although the original cast and music was just OK, the reworked soundtrack and movie ended up being one of the all time best musical productions in my opinion. NOTE: This is not a religious thread and I label myself only as Spiritual.
So after hundreds and hundreds of times listening, she eventually wore out her old copy of Andrew Loyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar". Over the years there have been several re-releases of this album/disk and about 2 years ago was yet another remastered release. Out of the blue this year while listening to other xmas disks, my wife again asked for a new copy of this music. When I researched, I found this latest release and glowing reviews of the sound quality so I ordered a copy.
Whether you are a believer or not, the songs, music, and overall message (aside from the general greatest story ever told) of this is still quite powerful. The movie performers and voices were stellar no matter what the recording quality was. But, this latest release is stunning. The vocals are clear, crisp, and emotional while the separation of instruments and overall layering is awesome. I have been hearing so much subtle instrumentation that was generally missed in older recordings along with less than decent playback gear of years ago because it all seemed to be mushed together for the most part.
Anyway, I just wanted to give this remastered release a bump in case others enjoy the songs and music for what it is without worrying about the religious aspect of it all.
