I never had this on disk but after pulling out my old Cassette copy, I got the 30th Anniversary Addition.

I rarely see mention of this great recording in reviews or anywhere else and was wondering where this fits in with members here.

Do you listen to this music or use it as reference material for demoing gear?

Wow - a reminder from my past!

As Magnepan's National Sales Mgr. from 1977-79, and having written the Magnepan owner's manuals, I traveled around the US a great deal, both using that album as a dealer speaker-set-up-training tool, as well introducing it to our dealers, and using it at CES while I was at Magnepan.

Have to confess that I haven't heard it since 1980 or so. Probably heard it too much...

Here is one thing I can tell you: The better your system, the more you will appreciate how well this album is recorded. If you make real improvements to your system vice sideways moves, JATP should continue to reveal new things to you. Having said that, some people believe that true jazz music was born and raised in the U.S. and JATP will never satisfy the soul.

The late Winston Ma was given the master tapes of JATP. He did some excellent transfers in CD and vinyl, including all three volumes (much more stuff than just the first album that was released). I have both the vinyl and latest CD set - both on his First Impression Music label.

Brian.......Listening to Jazz At The Pawnshop right now streamed from Tidal through my Aurender N10. Excellent recording. The ambiance of the people and noises in the background provides a nice jazz club feeling.

Larry, I am also enjoying the rest of the tracks from the 30th set.

Why are there not more recordings in this style? Or are there?

I have it on vinyl from a Swedish import on the Prophone label. Not sure where I picked this up, but seeing that the Pawnshop is in Stockholm maybe it's not that special.
