Yep, I wore out my Microsoft 1000 wireless keyboard. I don't know how many words were typed on it during the 9+ years I owned it, but this past few weeks the space bar became slack and intermittent. Finally, last night it quit working all together. I tried popping the space bar off the keyboard and reinstalling it but no luck in getting it to function again.

So, out with the old and in with the new. Today I drove into Lake City's Office Depot and picked up a Logitech MK540 wireless keyboard and mouse. I have no use for the mouse and left it in the box. I prefer my Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. The new Logiteck MK540 is pleasing me already. It is quiet, and the keys are easier to press. Perhaps my typing speed will go up a bit with the new keyboard.

At any rate, I certainly got my money's worth from the Microsoft keyboard. It will be interesting to see if this new Logitech keyboard can best 9+ years. Heck, I hope I'll still be tapping on this keyboard by then.

Does it have underneath lights Dan? I like a lighted keyboard.

I too have a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse, very affordable. I never use them though, only for emergency which is once in a blue moon.

I use the lighted (white) keyboard of my laptop, and its pad. I love lighted keyboards (white, blue or red), because I prefer to shut any bright lights in my rooms. I am allergic to bright lights, even small ones above my keyboard. Plus the screen looks better without lights around spilling on it.

Yours have more keys than mine, but mine comes with a pad, for when I don't want to use a mouse, like on the couch or in bed.

If my wireless keyboard was illuminated I would use it; I realized only later after purchasing it, but it was peanuts money.

Bob.......My new Logitech keyboard does not have back lit keys. I have back lit keyboards on my Sony Vaio laptop and the yet to be delivered HP Spectre X360 15T I ordered last week. I like back lit keyboards but it isn't necessary in my office where I have plenty of lighting and no issue typing or seeing the keys. Logitech has a model just like the one I just purchased that features a back lit keyboard. I looked at it today but decided it wasn't anything I required.

Bob.......Thanks for the YouTube videos on the Logitech keyboards. Logitech also has a software download that allows you to adjust many key functions, like reversing the Function key so that the F1 through F8 keys don't require you to press the fn key to access the special functions. The software also allows you to select momentary translucent pop-ups on your screen when any of the lock keys are turned on or off. I like that. Logitech manufactures some cool products.

Yes, the HP Spectre X360 15t is quite the premium laptop. I figured since my Sony Vaio is over 7 years old it might be nice to move up to the leading edge of laptop technology. It should be delivered Monday or Tuesday of next week. Here is a link to the way my HP Spectre is comfigured: https://www.audioshark.org/general-off-topic-forums-103/hp-spectre-x360-15t-laptop-15415-page2.html

Dan, I must say that new keyboard of yours is really good. I can read your posts twice as fast now..... :woot:

I was wondering the same. :D

That is cool Dan started this thread...new keyboard, then HP Spectre, because it made me search what's available today on state-of-the-art laptops...very impressive. And that HP Spectre x360 was mentioned among them. I spent couple hours reading about Microsoft laptops, Lenovo, Dell, Legion, etc., ...laptops in the $2,000 to $4,000 range. ...For all specialized uses...business, editing, gaming, overall.

Some keyboards integrated with the laptop, you can choose the color of the backlit, even rainbow.
Some laptops have 5K resolution screens, and can be used as tablets, reversible/retractable. The HP Spectre is a beautiful design with gold trims and Lamborghini lines.

I would like a keyboard which you speak to and it type exactly what you say and with the right intonation/punctuation. ...A hand-free keyboard, voice activated. ...No keyboard, just a screen you tell everything that you want it to do. ...A screen that you don't need to hold or put on a table, a virtual screen that you can suspend anywhere. ...A 3D virtual screen that can read your thoughts and put them in writing, with the help of your voice of course. I can see the future, like we see already in modern films, in sci-fi flicks.

Bob.......The HP Spectre X360 15t is a beauty for sure. I'll have it this coming Thursday. I am excited to get my hands on it.

I suspect your wish for the virtual voice enabled keyboard isn't that far off. Technology is zooming right along. A laser project holographic keyboard suspended in air in your room that typed while you talked would be startling.
