Is Bluetooth just blurtooth?

I use BT occasionally in my car and streaming to a system in my workout area. Never in the main system. I have an Audio Engine B1 BT receiver in that workout area, in streaming hi fi from Tidal I am still some underwhelmed with the BT performance.

Bluetooth is not high fidelity. I don't use it in my main system.

In my practice, I have a Dali Katch. Pretty good device for the money.
I used to connect my iPad via minijack (line in on the Katch).
Much to my surprise, connected via BT, it sounds way better.

In my car, BT is worse than Apple Car Play.

what about what Sony are doing atm.

It depends very much on the implementation.
Even with SBC (the mandatory codec) lossless transmission is theoretically possible but as nobody implements that, in practice it is high bitrate MP3 (320 kbs) today.
