Hello to all...
In my system: I use either a Wolze Triode Line Level Preamp with my CD, or my Onkyo A7 Integrated as a preamp (thru the Pre-Outs) with my TT, into my Coaxial EMI/Scope 63 speakers;
the power comes from a Nikko DC Alpha 230 power amp.
I have a problem: I can't get the volume control past 8 o'clock without it being WAY TOO LOUD!
I did some internet surfing and came up with the idea of changing the volume control on the Wolzeto a Goldpoint Stepped Attenuator, and by adding a pre-attentuation circuit (two resistors per channel)so that I'll have more flexibility/volume range and better control.
Is this a reasonable approach? and will it also yield a cleaner, more controlled sound?
And since the Onkyo already has a stepped attenuator, can I/should I add the pre-attentuation circuit to the existing attenuator for better control?
In my budget, this is not a inexpensive upgrade (part and tech work will probably run about $300 for the Wolze, and no idea what shop time will cost for the Onkyo) - so I'm hoping to hear
from someone who's actually done this mod...
Help please: thoughts, experiences, suggestions... Thanks!
