Thanks Myles, very interesting. I've always believed it comes down to the recording/mastering & the comment about jitter being in for good at the digital recording end explains a lot. Give me tape flutter instead please.

Andreas only touches the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the different types of jitter.
 
Yes , I am aware the jitter topic is huge & highly flammable. I was thinking more along the lines of how it is a general misconception by most that digital is pure 1's & 0's, where, as Andreas points out, if jitter is present in the recording, it is permanently 1's & 0's with jitter, not quite as pure as most think.
