Woke up this morning to ice on my deck stairs and handrails. The stair steps are dangerously slick. It's raining and 30 degrees right now. Overnight low dropped to 26. That's darn cold for Florida. That polar vortex has plunged deep across the country and is forecast to be here through Sunday. Looking forward to seeing our overnight lows back in the low 40's and daytime highs back in the upper 50's and low 60's. Thankfully we are nice and warm inside.

Yeah, I drove in to work this morning at a balmy 5 degrees. After tomorrows storm, Friday will be colder with 45 mph winds

I would welcome Rain and 30 degrees at this point as we have been way below freezing temps for about 9 days now and it's not supposed to get above freezing until next Tuesday

Oh yeah, the Back Bay at Somers Point NJ is frozen solid, which is a rare event

Dan I will trade ya, your ice for my waves. This is standing at the end of my road, The ocean is angry and we hope it just stays there. Stay warm Dan.

Chris.......Damn, that is an angry looking ocean. Mother Nature has been rough on us Floridians this past six months.

Lost power about an hour ago, most likely tree limbs breaking from the weight of the ice. Hope they get it restored soon. Thank goodness for my cellphone and a 4G network.

Bummer Dan! Normally you only have to worry about hurricanes and now you have lost power due to a cold snap.

Hope you Florida guys have battery-powered amps and DAC’s. Come on up to Chicago where it’s a tad chilly at -4 (two days ago - it broke the ten degree mark today)!

I'll pass on the cold. That's why I moved. Where I used to live (Northern VA), the low today will be around 8, Friday 5 and Saturday 4. I'll suffer the lows in the mid to upper 30s where I am over the next couple of days. By next week the lows will be upper 50s and low 60s. I have a gasoline generator and a generator panel and can run everything except central heat or A/C but I have a couple of electric space heaters. So I have no worries that way. Was windy yesterday and the lights flickered for perhaps a second but that was about it.

I'm back. :)

Didn't get power restored until 10:30 this morning. My generator supports lighting, receptacles, refrigerator, microwave, and my well. It doesn't support the air conditioning system so there was no heat. We had an overnight low of 24°F. With no heat the house dropped to 58° in the 18+ hours without power. It was pretty nippy. I was happy to hear the air handler come on with the power. The house is warming back up nicely. We're at 65° inside right now and rising. Thank goodness for electric blankets. Marlene is still under the covers in the bedroom watching television. She won't get out of bed until the house gets about 72° or so. Anyway, we made it through a darned cold night.
