Over the last few months, I have been to ENT guy multiple times as I now have intermittent buzzing in my ear. I really don't care to get into an internet diagnosis, just want to say I have had a brain MRI and all that stuff. My ear buzzes like a bad speaker, at real low volume it's fine. But get above conversation volume and it buzzes along with the conversation/ music. It also buzzes as I talk, it really sucks. So, I am going to post my stuff in the classifieds, and I would really like to sell local as auditioning my system would be beneficial to all involved. Anyway, I have an Ayon Auris II preamp and an Ayon CD 10 II player with PCM to DSD processing, Ayon stuff is simply outstanding. A pair of Volti Audio Razz's in redgum and black grilles, these are also outstanding. A Carver Black Magic 25 EL34 amp which is a perfect match with the Volti's. Also, a Denali power thingy from Shunyata. Cables out the ying ya and bunch of accessories. I might still be part of the forum but a Bose table radio is really all I need at this point. Cheers all. BTW, I just turned 69 and I have been in this hobby since about 1967 and I have had much fun, so don't feel bad for me.
 
Really sorry to hear this. Music is the rhythm of life so I do hope you are able to keep some music in your life.
Good luck with however you have to treat your condition and situation.
 
Thanks for the kind words. Luckily, the MRI didn't see anything wrong like a tumor or anything, just a bunch of empty space.....lol.
 
I've had Tinnitus since the late 70's, caused by loud music when I was in a rock band in high school and then college and then drag racing, that didn't help at all. Lucky for me, it has stayed the same. Sure I have a lot of mosquitoes buzzing around, but thankfully my brain adjusted and handles it. But sure, anytime I want to hear it, well its there. Ps: Tinnitus , still no cure.
 
So sorry to hear about the problems. I'm near the other coast (Central, FL). I've had my share of health issues (and continue to have them). Getting old is not fun.

That buzzing can’t be fun. I sure hope that it goes away and you are able to enjoy music again. Best…
 
Thanks for the thoughts guys, you don't know how much it means to me. Although listening to my wonderful system is not so wonderful anymore, I have (for the mean time) started to learn to play guitar. I bought a pretty nice acoustic and its not loud enough to make my ears buzz. So, it's another chapter and although I will not be able to listen to Dave play "Wish You Were Here" I just might be able to figure out how to play it myself......So there, lol.

I'm sorry to hear that. My wife also suffers from that problem and I know it is terrible.
She tries various techniques, and although none of them resolves definitively, some provide temporary relief that, according to her, feels very good...

Here are some of the tricks she uses:

- Try falling asleep on your stomach, without a pillow, alternating your head either to the left side or to the right side.
- Try to sleep well at night, even if you have to use a sleeping pill.
- Use nasal strips to improve oxygenation (not every day – use 2 days and don't use the third for example).
- Chew gum from time to time.
- Inflate balloons
- Massage and warm the area behind the ears and neck (see a good ointment below)
- Avoid noisy environments or loud music.
- Try some moderate exercise like stationary cycling
- When traveling by car, put some cotton wool in your ears.
- Avoid coffee.
- Avoid alcohol.

Of all these tricks, according to her, the one that gives the most temporary relief is listening to this frequency below. It doesn't take 10 hours! A few minutes seems to be enough. Especially before bed so that you can fall asleep with some relief. The volume should be higher than the tinnitus, without exaggerating.

I have had tinnitus for decades as a result of a head injury sustained in a cycling accident. You might try Lipo-Flavonoid or vinpocetine. Neither one of these is a proven clinical treatment, but some people, myself included, have found mild relief from symptoms. I use a wave machine at night which helps with sleeping.

Hi, you may not want to give up on audio yet.

I've had not only bad tinnitus since the 90's but also suffer from bouts of terrible hyperacusis, which is far worse. When the hyperacusis acts up it's truly horrible, all sound becomes exaggerated, even turning the page of a book hurts my ears. Several years ago I ended up on a stroll outside by our city lake when low flying fighter jets started flying over us. Turned out we were under the route the practiced for the upcoming air show. My ears were already delicate but this sound was teeth shattering, earthquake inducing, and my ears were utterly shot afterwards. All sound, my own voice, was painful, and sound was distorted, so even just chewing food would create wild white noise, and music sounded like it was made of icey spikes. It's the kind of stuff some people have ended their lives over.

HOWEVER...I sought out a treatment, that involved wearing tiny soft noise generators in my ears each day, to re-train my brain to get used to sound again. Took a long time, over a year, but my ears ended up stronger than ever. I now listen to music louder than I have for 30 years and totally enjoy high end audio/music again.

So, again, even if it seems really bad and feels permanent, it's not necessarily so. Even my bad Tinnitus comes and goes.
 
The Lenire device utilizes similar neurobehavioral training to what Matt describes, although it is more sophisticated and works much more quickly for those tinnitus sufferers for whom it works at all.
 
Thx for all the feedback but it's not tinnitus that is the problem (although I do have a mild case of it). When I talk or when medium to loud noises are present my ear buzzes along with the tempo, like a bad speaker would buzz when you turn it up. I'm a bit bummed as I am not sure how will affect my hearing when I get a bit older. I don't want to isolated, that is my main fear. Losing my stereo does suck, but in the big picture it's not THAT big.
 
Well, although I listed my stuff on here, I never really, really wanted to sell it. I just figured I had to. I never listed my stuff on Audiogon, US Audio Mart or anywhere else. I have been hoping for a happier resolution. Now the dr's believe there are problems with my eustachian tubes and something mechanical going on with my middle ears. At least it looks like a solution may be at hand AND I learned how to play a little bit of guitar. Things could be worse. Cheers all and thanks for all of your thoughts and feedback.

Keep the faith and don’t give up. Your brain compensates for sensory shortcomings, and my guess is you will adapt and enjoy listening to your rig again very soon no matter what transpires with your condition.
