The interesting point here is about the 3rd and 4th generation. When Mastering Engineer Bob Katz visited me, he pointed out that the vinyl is much closer to the master in most cases than any copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a tape.

Of course the tape heads call “BS”. But Fremer mentions something similar in the article above.
