How many times do I buy a piece of music?

In a weak (Very Weak) I plopped down the $$ to buy the latest Sgt. Peppers LHCB recording. (96/24)

By my calculation I've owned this music in roughly 5 versions now. (counting this latest)
Vinyl, 8-Track, Original CD and I'm sure there was another format in there somewhere. Probably the cassette version also if the truth be told.

This latest thing was $34.98... jeez. but heck, I had my 15% off HDT coupon... $29 and change. ...what-a-bargain..

..and I've no doubt that at some point in the future I'll be told the MQA, or MQA-2 or the Super Duper Remastered Beatles catalog is coming.

I must admit however, that while I wasn't expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised by this latest Sgt. Peppers. it sounds VERY good.. A Day In The Life is as musically amazing now as it was all those years ago.

Ray, I admit, it can get a bit much. I have so many various versions of Miles Davis Kind of Blue, I’ve lost track.

It is even worse for me in regard to DVDs. Started out with regular DVD, then remastered Superbit DVDs came along, then the Director's Cut, then Blue Ray, then remastered Blue Ray, then the extended Director's Cut, and now I am doing it again with 4K UHD Blue Ray. Shissh. LOL

I’ve purchased a few copies of Herbie Hancock Headhunters, and Hendrix Band of Gypsys just to name a couple.

No doubt, following this process becomes cumulative, and IMO worth it if noticeable improvement is realized.

I just bought the remastered versions of The Doors Strange Days and Hendrix’s Axis Bold as Love.

Honestly I am not impressed and will listen a little more to see if it’s me, the system or the recording.

Knowing this music for over 40 years, I know the clarity and punch of specific sections and while there is improvement is some areas it misses these parts where it was there on previous recordings and systems at much different levels, including car stereo.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I was actually shocked how bad the remaster of Metallica - Master of Puppets is. There is no bass, the kick drum is very thin in the mix

One of the reasons I like Roon is that it lets me see how sick I am with some artists/albums!

It lets me see, for instance, that I have 7 different versions of King Crimson's "In the court", 6 versions of Genesis "Foxtrot", 6 versions of Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti", and so on... It's a sickness, I tell ya :)

cheers,
alex
