The first time I heard The Horace Silver Quintet playing Song For My Father I almost fell out of my listening chair. Please tell me where Steely Dan got their song intro for Rikki Don't Lose That Number.

Yes, I thought the same thing the first time I heard that Horace Silver track. I know that the two members of Steely Dan were big on jazz, so it wasn’t surprising to me.
The other interesting thing about the Horace Silver track is that when I heard the main theme right after the intro it reminded me of Stevie Wonder’s song “Don’t You Worry About a Thing”. I wonder if Stevie was inspired by the Horace Silver track too.
