Hong Kong 2017 hi fi Show pictures

Shane.......Thanks so much for the photos of the Hong Kong 2017 HiFi Show. It has been many years since I was last in Hong Kong. I can imagine the population density has only grown. The show looks fabulous and your photographs are well done.

I found myself most attracted to the Analog Domain system.

Hey
Tks for the pics. I went to the show as well. Sorry can't give detailed feedback as I didn't really do critical listening . I can say that I enjoyed listening to vivid speakers ( despite difficult rooms),raidho ,Wilson audio and I bought plenty of music! ( stockfisch records label)

I went back to the show on Sunday morning and thankfully at that time it was not that crowded. I was able to visit some new rooms that I did not see on Friday.

the Genesis Speakers sounded excellent - 3d image was good, mainly due to the rear firing drivers no doubt.

The small Penaudio speakers sounded sweet and floated nicely - quite impressed

The Air tight room was very good and the Air tight amps drove the Karma speakers very well. We even got to meet Mr Air Tight - Miura-san

Serbian turntable that uses Kuzma tonearms

Miura-san - the man in person

a lovely gentleman.

One may think these are Maarten speakers - but they are not. A new design from an Italian speaker company - I still can't read the name of it - sounded pretty good, looked a million bucks.

The EAR/Chario room sounded extremely good considering the music was being played with a Clearaudio Concept turntable

new Alexia 2

Unfortunately this Vienna acoustics based system was worse of show - Vienna speakers sound good, so it must have been the crappy streaming they were using as a source - Can't believe they continued to play the system the way it sounded - flat, boomy with recessed vocals and zero musicality.

This was opposite in being good sound from streaming.

The Sugden / harbeth room sucked as well - dark sounding with little real musical detail.

This miniature SME was pretty cool.

I have no interest in headphones, but these Sony's piqued my interest

The Lumin Vivid room was pretty good, however a lower treble sheen seems to irritate somewhat.

The Estellon room sounded a lot better today compared to Friday

This under 10K project table was providing the front end for the massive Avalon speakers - just goes to show you do not need a 30K plus table for superb sound.

Best sound at the show?

For me - The large Avalon system and the Albedo speaker based system. The Penaudio systems was best small speaker based system.

XV-1 Thanks very much for the show effort , could you elaborate more on your top picks and how do you find them vs other SOTA Speakers/systems ..

Hi AW

Take any comments from anyone on any show must be taken with huge amounts of salt.. All of my comments are based on less than 20 minutes listening to any one system. they are my opinions only and really mean nothing in how any of these products will sound in another system or at home. An example was the estellon room on Friday - it sounded like shite - on Sunday - while with a different model speaker sounded a lot better.

To answer your question - the large Avalon speakers bandwidth seemed to go deeper and higher than any other speaker at the show and they seemed to be cruising with any genre of music being played - not that there was any variety. Any young person would vomit with the musak being played in most rooms - hardly inspiring to the next wave of young audiophiles.
The Genesis Dragon speakers sounded better from what I heard a couple of years back.

the Albedo speakers exceeded expectations as frankly I was not expecting much from the bling Chord amps/pre amp. Small room but every song I heard had control and musicality.

The Penaudio speakers sounded really coherent and 3d and all from a genuine small speaker.

cheers

Michael Fremer's video of the show! This show is huge!!

Ok. After watching Mikey's handheld video of this show, I now have a much clearer understanding of why so many high end manufacturers prioritize their limited resources and concentrate on shows like this. Why bother with the small North American shows when maufacturers can focus on shows like Hong Kong and Munich.
Massive crowds.
