Hi guys,

I'm new here and I was wondering if you guys can help me out with my first Magico speaker purchase

I have auditioned the S1mk2 and completely fell in love with it (i even prefer it over the S3mk2, there is something really magical about the s1m2....).
I was really close to pull the trigger on the S1 but now i saw the announcement of the A3...

I will not be able to audition the A3 while the current deal (great deal) on the S1 is still valid.
Have any of you heard the two can help me reach a decision? Should I pass the current deal and audition the A3? Or just take the deal on the S1mk2?

I mostly listen to jazz and acoustic music and the occasional rock.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments!

johnnyb, I'm surprised you preferred the S1mk2 to the S3mk2. Did you hear both of these in the same environment (room/electronics/music)? I own the S3mk2 and have heard both in the same environment. I have not heard the A3, but some have speculated that it will effectively replace the S1mk2 in addition to establishing a new price point for Magico. Consequently, I'd be inclined to wait on the A3. If you still prefer the S1mk2, I think you will be seeing more deals for this product soon.

I first got the S1mk2 and loved it. I had a hard time imagining anything better. The fever got the best of me and I upgraded to the S3Mk2 and now I can’t imagine anything better.
In a nutshell the S3Mk2 pushes more air, bigger bass displacement, and being a classic rock fan the bass and sound is just bigger. But I could be and was very happy with the S1mk2.
Let your room size and wallet dictate which one you get, but my advice is buy the best you can afford cause if you don’t as soon as you get whatever you choose you will want the next one up. If you are a boater it’s like 2footitis.....lol

If you prefer S1 mk2 over S3 mk2, it’s very unlikely you’d prefer A3 over S1 mk2.

Thanks for all the comments!

Yeah I know it’s weird the S1mk2 was better sounding for me than the s3mk2. I think it has to do with how well the 2 way speaker design was executed.. I heard both in the same room, the s3 has some smearing on the low end as apposed to the S1.

@the_professor what do you mean?

Btw, I share the concerns about the A3 replacing the S1 from a price point of view..

Any more opinions?

Again,Thanks to all who took the time to comment, I appreciate that!

The reviews on the A3 so far are pretty outstanding. I guess it would all depend on the deal you are getting on the S1 MKII. The whole S series will take a huge hit in value one the A3 becomes more available, so don't be pressured by "the deal" unless it is something crazy. I would not even consider the S1 MKII unless the price is below $6500,(without listening to the A3 first and preferring the S1..I am assuming you are talking about used) as you will take a huge hit if you decide to sell after he A3 becomes available.

I was just meaning that the A3 is a little different sound than the S1 MKII and I could see why people might like it better. From what I heard at the show - I liked the A3 better. But that was one system in show conditions so who knows really.

The A is very linear but just like the difference between the Q series and S series and the M series - the A series is a little different. Still Magico but I can see why different people might like different series sound.

Hi Johnny. Welcome to the forum. I have an opinion and suggestion. I just upgraded my beloved Magico Mini II to the Q3. I think I will be selling the Mini II. If you like the coherence of a two way, you may well love this speaker. It is a statement quality two way monitor on a stand. You can PM me if you have questions or would like to discuss it.

No need to go that far. Get the S5 MKII and be set for life. Or at least a year or two. :)

I'll second that advice. The S5 MKII is an amazing transducer. The best sounding speaker I have had in my home by far and I plan on keeping them for a very very long time.

Best,

John

Flipping speakers gets expensive over time. Might as well get the best today and keep them forever. Hard to imagine Magico will invent something better than M3 any time soon, if ever.

That's the story I told my wife! I do agree however. Live music, in your room, whenever you want.

Hi sadly I don’t see myself spending more than 11$k ~ on a speaker (New or second hand) at the place I am now. Given that, what do u guys think?

You should just take that S1 mk2 deal you mentioned (assuming it’s around $11k). You wouldn’t find many ppl prefer S1 mk2 over S3 mk2 and if you’re one of them that’s the speakers for you.
