I do not think many people will disagree that the best head phones out their will compete with the the best speakers for far less money.

But how many people have a top of the line analog front end, phono amp going ONLY to a head phone amp. I know it would be far cheaper way to go but what percentage of the people do it.

I have never even seen a photo of a top line system without speakers. Personally I have never listened to a whole album on head phones . Just wondering if anyone is doing it this way.:skeptical:

During school year when kiddos are studying every evening this is my setup. Ref2se phono into Audeze LCD-X via ALO audio studio six head amp. Three turntables as source.

Makes sense three turntables headphones the silent DJ

Btw ALO studio six has a dedicated connection for an upcoming phono preamp they are making to marry wth the headphone amp. So they believe in the setup and approach you are asking about

I know headphones are out selling speakers dollar for dollar but I do not think that is true in high end but I do not know for sure. While it is true headphones can be used anywhere I still think people lust after the big room with speakers.

For sure there is a dynamic-air-moving spacious impact only had from speakers but great headphones provide an equally but different compelling experience.

Very interesting I never used headphones . but am always curious about them

You can add subs or tactile transducers to a headphone rig.

Headphones are hard for me to take for long periods. I've always had really crappy cans until about 3 years ago when the HeadFi folks turned me on to a nice pair of Sennheiser HD518s. However, I only wear them once in a blue moon and never during the warm months like it is now.

I have a pair of HifiMan HE-600's that sound incredible, but rarely see any use compared to my other rigs.

I use headphones around once a week. Usually early am on the weekend while my wife is sleeping in the next room. I'm using Sennheiser HD600 to RSA Raptor. I just use the tape out on my pre and use the pre for source selection. I do enjoy listening to headphones but speakers are a more relaxing experience.

My system is definitely NOT top of the line, but here it is
