Just recently I have been playing around with the Passive mode on the Freya. It definitely has grown on me. Extremely transparent... which brings me to the Hattor Passive Preamps. I know Marty has one. Has anyone else tried one? Opinions?

It looks very interesting. How does it compare to the Schiit passive mode?

Seems difficult to customize on their website. Do you have to contact them directly to get the exact configuration that you want?

I really wanted one but once my GAT2 and Misho Wooden combo became possible. I stopped looking.

I’ve only read great things about Hattor.

Yea the Stage 2 would be nice, but cannot swing it now. Wife had to have new Falcon laptops :)... and both cars needed tires.... grrrr...

Looks like a Hattor could be had for the grand range with the same level resistors as are used in the Stage 2...

Not sure it would beat the Stage 2 STP-SE or the new model coming soon though maybe cheaper.

Not sure what EJ is doing with a new model. We were looking at new ideas when I was there for a few months... that was over a year ago though.

Thanks Jack. If I become serious I will have to look in to it. Either way would want it customized to the configuration that works best for me.

Of course a Stage 2 would probably work fantastic in my system.

Moving is a pain... hopefully all goes well and easy for you. Good luck indeed!

I have no experience with the passive, but can say I was really surprised with the nCore Integrated
http://www.hattor.com/ncore_integrated.html

The volume control and LED readout are slick and the power from a little Int was more than enough.

They still dont have it on their site, but they are also developing a hybrid Integrated which I also got to hear and play with.

Unique looking piece. I think the wood side panels look pretty cool, but I also wonder if the two fans could get a tad noisy?

No noise that I recalled. This is the setting where I got my time to play with this gear. This was the smallest setup of 3 that day in an upstairs bedroom. I was alone for an hour or so enjoying my own disks via the CAL as well as streaming with a Lampi DAC.

Nice... having fans does not always mean noisy. The little T+A amplifier has a fan on it but I have never once heard it, for example.

I had one and no complaints from me. I just sold it week of so ago, since I am moving to an integrated. I used it with IceEdge amp, Folsom's DIY and Moscode 600. It worked well with all of them and I did not have any issues with it. Arek @ Hattor was easy to deal with and you can buy the pre directly from him.

I just got one loaded with top resistors and the top opamp stage. I purchased this for a certain type of listening in contrast to my DHT preamp. i have not played with it yet, as I’m in the middle of some speakerstand footer demos that I have to wrap up, so I’m sticking to what I know right now.
I did check working order and all functions. During that quick listen it sounded great for complet transparency.
Ill try to report back in a few weeks on how I like it. But I’m sure it’s going to suit my needs just fine.
