Curious if these lower priced Pangea Power Cords are worth a try.

After auditioning some gear over the weekend and realizing what I have now is actually comparable to what I listened to except for maybe my room and some cables, I am thinking the best place to start is trying a PC that is better than the generic cords I have in place. I don't really want to spend a ton of cash, but really interested if a modest PC upgrade will yield any audible results.

Audio Advisor has been selling these Pangea cables for what seems reasonable prices but I have not had any personal feedback, only on-line reviews. Anyone here able to comment on any of the Pangea PCs and if it would be a good place to start experimenting?

Thanks for any feedback.

I might have an AC-14 in a secondary system somewhere at this point. Decent value for the money. I had an AC-9 I bought many moons ago for the bedroom system in my old house, but it was not flexible enough to use where I wanted and it wasn't all that great. So it basically went unused and a gave it away when I moved a few years ago. I'd use them (e.g. AC-14) in a secondary system if I was too lazy to make my own (and I do make some of my own). I wouldn't consider it in my main system.

Big difference in cost between the two ....

The Venom cost $100 at the time. The problem with Pangea, and Audio Advisor, is since day 1 they have sold Pangea at 50% off. Never in ten years, or longer, have they marketed it in any other way. Yes, the AC9 is too big and unflexible. Good for fighting off intruders.

I used Pangea quite a bit and have demo'd the latest models.
Perhaps I'm spoiled by what I use now, but what I've recently demo'd was completely underwhelming and didn't bring anything to the table on the components I used them on. I found that the Pangea cables I recently tried thinned out the sound a bit. I tried AC9 and 14's on a McIntosh tuner and wasn't happy at all. They went back to Amazon. At least buying on Amazon made them easy to return.
But as others have said, for the money, they seem like decent quality cables. You can get long lengths for a reasonable cost and as others have noted, they are stiff and unwieldy as heck.

Frenchmon used those, they did give an improvement from stock but there was some negative effect if too many in the same system, not functionally, just sound wise.

I strongly recommend trying TWL "Triode Wire Labs" if you are trying for the first ime. I'm not sure the cost but they were really good, which made them a steal at the price. I can't remember what my friend paid for his, they had similar character to my Clarus, and a bit too close to performance for my comfort, considering the price difference, LOL

Mr P

Agree the TWL power cords are really good and I am using one on the preamp, amp and power conditioner but the standard series starts at $250 and ranges up to $549 for 5' so different price point.

I decided to try out a few lower price cables. So far the 2 Pangea AC14SEMII have made nice improvements on my Pre and CDP.

Waiting for a PS Audio AC3 for my amp since the Pangea AC9 is too stiff for routing. I may look at one of those later for my APC H15 unit.

Shadow, If you decide to try Cullen Cables, let me know how they sound. A couple of years ago I was going to buy a pair of his PC's but ended up upgrading my XLR's and computer instead. User reviews have been pretty good and I haven't found one bad review. Patrick can guide you on which of his cables would fit you taste and system.

Here are some reviews on them-

I already ordered and received the Pangea cables and the PS Audio AC# will be here today.

I cannot find pricing on the Cullen cables anywhere so no idea if they are even in my range, which is no more than I already spent.

Manufacturers that have a website with no pricing is useless and just a total dis-service to the consumer. If I can't even get a price, I move on.

Thanks for the hint tho.

Why do they use the word Pangea in the cable name and link, but then go on to trash Pangea in the item description?

Not sure myself , just mentioned because they looked to be using better ends than the Pangea cables at similar pricing ..

know nothing of them ... :|

regards .

If you go to the Culllen Cable web site and hover the pointer over the products in the top left, then on power cables, the different cables appear, then click on the different cables. They range from about $80 to $400 or so. Their Gold cable is a great buy.

I had trouble finding the prices too. Here are some of his cables.

I just ordered one in Black/Blue directly from the Maze Audio site where the same cable is $59.95.

I dont know how they do it for those prices , good plugs and ends alone cost more, post your findings ....

From what I have been able to deduce, it is Kent and his son hand making these cables on the side. I will update this thread when I get it in the system.

I wondering what you think Brian? i have 2 or 3 of the fat pangeas here. i use a Viva integrated now and cant use the really nice avanti PC i got from Mikech, because the end hits the side of my amp and doesnt sit all the way in, which is a furutech. so the narrower pangea end fits and i been using it and forgot how good they are for really no money. id not suggest it in anything but big amps with straight runs to plugs. but im looking for a new cord and cant seem to find any that have a narrower female end(no jokes:D)
