Just curious if the MC2301's still sound better or if the dual MC275's are close enough.

I finally broke down last night and put my MC75's on the JBL's. Holy cr@p, as much as I like/need solid state, tubes will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. Depth, roundness, sweetness, air! It's all there, like it should be.

Joe.......I have owned the MC275 MkV amplifier, both a single one, then a pair I operated in bridged mono. I now own the MC2301's. In between the MC275's and the MC2301's I also powered my Sonus faber Amati Anniversario's with a MC352, MC501's, MC452, and a pair of MC601's. There was never any question that all of those amplifiers sounded very good, but the ultimate performance with the Anniversario's comes from the MC2301 power amplifiers. I found that the pair of MC275's operating in bridged mono offered slightly better bass control and a bit more dynamic range than operating a single MC275 in stereo mode. None the less, neither configuration of the MC275 amps equaled the amazing sound of the MC2301's. At 300 watts mono, the MC2301's deliver total control of the low frequency drivers at any volume, a wonderful silky smooth midrange that sounds earthy, textured, and alive with natural vibrancy, and a heavenly top end that always floats with no sense of glare or stridency. I still own and enjoy the MC601's and a MC452, but the pair of MC2301's with premium tubes are the true essence of what high-end audio is all about. They are intoxicating.

Thank you Dan for the affirmation. The MC2301's were what caused me to fall in love with my Strads. I simply do not know why I've resisted so long. I've been thinking about them more and more lately. I could kick myself for passing on the MC2301's on several occasions. I also love the Tube Sentry of the McIntosh amps. Less worry for me.

Joe,

As you know, you are welcome to come and listen to this shootout if you wish. I can do it but have not since getting my 2301s. I don't think it will be pretty. That is the reason I havent tried it. I am only keeping the 50 hour 275s until I decide what to do with them.

I totally understand what you mean. I love my MC75's but know that the MC2301 are "THE ONES" to get :D

Have not heard NAT but fell in love with Alexus Audio 833 tube amps at the White Plains NY Audio Show last year. Amazing depth and air. A huge sound stage that was unbelievable.
