there is Scott Scheaffer of Found Music, based in Dallas.

Scott traveled around for years setting up Durand Telos tonearms for customers. Scott used to live near me in the Seattle area and he is a good friend. when Joel Durand was designing his tonearms and using my room as a test area Scott was part of the small group who was there frequently and so I've seen him set up tonearms many, many times. I've seen no one better. and I've seen him set up many different tone arms.....not just Durand.

he has set up tone arms and tt's in the finest systems.

Scott also designs and builds tube amplifers, and designs and sells cables. super easy to work with and communicate with.....and very laid back, yet relentless to wring out that last bit of magic.

Jim Fuller at Restoration Audio was Goodwin's turntable guru for years and also did all of their repair work. He set up my CA Innovation Wood, did a great job.

He was the US repair person for dCS before he went to Goodwin's, recently started his own shop in Vermont. Very nice guy, and meticulous in his work.

Andre Jennings...Dre_J here at Audioshark is well known for his turntable setup expertise.... Don't know if he is available currently. Apologies to Andre if I over stepped here.
It's certainly worth asking !!

All the best, Tom

Mike,

Why don't you have reps from your turntable suppliers come to your new store and set up their products and train you?

I know how to set up a turntable, I've set up dozens, but my eyes aren't the best anymore for such fine, intricate work and I need to have a partner who can assist me with client table setup (specifically with Kronos).

Apologies, should have known that you needed an in-house turntable set up guru, not a one off deal :-(

Tom - I feel it's always important to deliver a world class client experience - especially with a $50k turntable. That being said, you're talking 1-2 setups a year max. Unfortunately, $50k turntables aren't flying off the shelf. [emoji6]

I wouldn't mind a second set of eyes on my Kronos setup too. [emoji41]

And on that note, I've heard a couple of horror stories/complaints of another high end dealer's table setups (no one on AS). These are expensive tables. Having the comfort level that it's fully optimized gives the buyer significant confidence.

Mike maybe someone from the Suncoast Audio Society that is proficient in turntables can be trained on a Kronos. Just a thought

Haha! Chris, you obviously don't know this group! They are a "digital rules" bunch. You ought to hear Ronnie Tarr and I mumbling at the meetings as we spin another CD on an Oppo. [emoji16]. Great guys, but definitely more digital focused folks.

And I really want someone who's been doing TT setups for a living. The person Jon (VTSkier) recommended would probably be ideal. It's part of his business and he understands the customer side from all his years at Goodwins.

Your service and credibility is why you are successful...And it will remain the same because of your integrity !!!

Mike,

For tt setup, I would recommend Stirling Trayle as well, based on recommendations from industry people I respect.

But he is not exactly next door (as are none of these folks who've been recommended).

IMO, the tt supplier (mftr. or distributor) should be on standby to render whatever assistance is required for this aspect, at least initially. Especially at the higher price points. SHEESH!!!

Chad Stelly at Acoustic Sounds in Kansas might be available for occasional one-off tt projects (a guess - I do not know if it is possible). You'd probably have to talk to Chad Kassem first.

I know a dealer in Texas who works from home who is excellent on tts. Of course, as a dealer, he is a competitor, although he is across the Gulf from you (a couple of hours by air). He has very high ethics and wouldn't try to steal or mess with your clients. Probably the only question is whether or not he would do it. If you don't come up with someone else, let me know and I will bounce it off him.

Best,

Jim
