I am about get a Garrard 301 based turntable. I am a newbie into garrards and idlers. I have been using belt drives all this while.

Now the million dollar question, which version is a safe buy for a first timer garrard user like me, grease bearing or oil bearing ?
I have heard couple of garrards but do not know which versions were they. My question is purely from the sonic point of view and not from the collectors view. Which version is easier to buy blind and be happy considering that I am not exactly coming from a vintage system ?

My current system is based on a pair of Tannoy turnberry SE speakers and Wavac amplification. It is revealing yet with a natural warmth.

Whichever version I buy will be fully restored anyway by a Garrard expert so maintenance is also not the issue. Sonically, some say grease version can sound dark and ponderous whereas some say they actually sound more energetic. Can someone please help me here ?

Kindly suggest.

Typically with most bearings in turntables, Dextron automatic transmission fluid is a good choice. It works well in platter bearings and motors too.

I have never heard of using transmission fluid as a lubricant for tables. Mobile 1 is hard to beat.

Mobile 1 would be good too. You just don't want something that turns into gum as it ages. 3 in 1 generally speaking is a bad idea.
