Anyone have experience with this unit and/or the effectiveness their GC-303 rfi absorbing material? I know their shielding, copper, and mechanical grounding are first rate but I am interested in how good their filter/component isolation stuff works?

i don't have personal experience with this product but have heard very good things. Their Flux F-50 inline power filters also surround an EM filter with GC-303. Many Furutech products use their proprietory absorbing material. I use the F-50 on every single component in the localised power network (between power distributor & component). I believe aggregated in-line filtering at the component level is the most effective solution to cleaning up the ebb & flow considering much noise is generated by the neigbouring components themselves!

Steve, thanks very much for your insights. I am very interested in the Flux-50s. I have the Torus unit to block the noise coming in from the utility and the rest of the house and am looking for the best option for component isolation that does not impact instantaneous current. I have read a lot of good things about the Flux-50s on another forum but not much experience here apparently. Do you mind if I ask a few more questions?

1) Have you not noticed any reduction in dynamics or what might be considered instantaneous current?
2) What other passive filters/isolation systems did you compare the Flux-50 to in your system (ex. shunyata, audience etc.)?
3) What do you use for distribution?

Hi Paul,

1. Not at all! I use them on all amplifiers. Furutech claim that the F-50 is not current limiting. I have heard no reduction in dynamics or compression artefacts at any volume level. If one was to argue a miniscule effect of v=IR here (Ohms Law but some of you call it "DTCD"), then wouldn't a "Zitron" passive circuit also have a measurable effect? EM filters have been widely used on sensitive medical and scientific instruments for years. (IEC60601). Their application in HiFi is more recent.

2. The funny thing is I use them in conjunction with Shunyata products and the cumulative effect of the F-50 offers a far more substantive improvement than using "The Shunyata" alone. I would say that the F-50 inclusion in the path is obviously & positively discernable! (i.e. immediately night & day. You don't need hundreds of hours to think it has made a difference) Inline filtering at the point of consumption is logical as ALL equipment puts noise onto the power line. As with anything hanging off power, the effects are cumulative especially when localised. So, if you have 4 components, I would be using 4 filters.

3. I use Shunyata Hydra Talos x 2 & Shunyata Hydra Cyclops x 2

I have inkling that shielding & EM filtering could be the emphasis for the new Shunyata power cable products. For those hooked on the Shunyata upgrade train, I would put the question to them.

Considering how much money people spend on cables in this hobby, an EM/RF meter is a handy tool to have. I believe that a cable must meet a minimum specification for it to be an honest performer.

Steven, again thanks very much for your great insights. I am planning to use all Furutech for power and component isolation down stream from my Torus. I am hoping Flux-50's for my amps and Flux-50's with a Furutech distribution unit for my preamp and sources and will do the job.
