Is this a trend we will see more of? Manufacturers buying their distributors or continuing the trends of working directly with the dealers?


…An Evolution
Over the course of the last 2 decades, Audio Plus Services & Plurison have both enjoyed tremendous growth. As you may imagine, as president I have worn many hats, but by far my most important and difficult job is to plan the future, providing stability and growth opportunities to everyone involved – dealers, manufacturers and our employees as well.

With this in mind, last year we started managing Focal's subsidiary, Focal North America (CI, Headphones and Multimedia), thus strengthening even more our 25 year relationship with VerVent Audio Group, the owner of Focal and Naim.

I am thrilled to announce that after months of hard work, Audio Plus Services & Plurison are becoming Focal Naim America, a subsidiary of Vervent Audio Group. Clearly, this recent evolution of our long and successful relationship provides is us with a rock-solid foundation to support our mutual long term growth and strategy.

Interesting.

Naim for years and years basically owned the North American distributer (partners with a couple guys technically, but they didn't distribute anything except Naim) and it worked great. Then they tried to go to an outside distributer and from a customer perspective (me) it wasn't near as good. So going back to them owning their own distributer could be good.
 
As far as to your question Mike: I think it is really hard for a manufacturer to have the expertise it takes to be a distributer. It is a different business and takes much different skills.

I sort of think of this as the same as doctors and lawyers running their own practice. They are extremely smart people - but running an office (business) is totally different than being a doctor or lawyer. And because of that difference it rarely works out good without a business person running the office/practice day to day operations and the professional doing the work.

It can be done well by one person but it is the exception not the rule.
