My business partner has been working on this prototype for a while. Any feedback you'd like to provide? We think we could sell it for $199 CAD each (approx. $160 USD at the current exchange rate). Does it seem like something sellable at that price?

It is machined from aluminum and powder coated black. 3" square base and 4" high. The acrylic rod is height adjustable from just over 4" at the bottom of the curvature to 6.5". We could provide a longer rod as an option. Weight is 2.5 lbs.

With the adjustable height, it not only works as a cable elevator, but could also be used as a strain relief for heavy power cables plugged into the wall or a component.

Thanks for your anticipated input.

Does the square base serve a function? If not you could consider a round or cone shaped body and eliminate one machining operation. Turning machines (lathes) are the most economical and would be able to machine the Aluminum bar in one setup. This also removes edges from the profile reducing an area of concern in your powder coating stage.

Hope this gives you some ideas on saving some manufacturing costs.

Regards

Personally, I wouldn't pay $160 for any cable lifter and I don't care if it's machined from titanium and had an outer layer of pure gold. There is nothing magic about a cable lifter. Anything beyond being able to hold a cable up off the floor and help with keeping cable runs somewhat tidy, the rest is gilding the lily. Just my opinion of course and I wish you the best.

Just to clarify, when I mentioned about the aesthetics, that was in response to Nikhil's question about the facets.

Understood 100% He was trying to help you save costs and he didn't understand that your decision to machine those facets in was based purely on aesthetics. For all Nikhil or anyone else knew there might have some claim about why the facets were necessary to the design which fortunately isn't true. You asked for feedback, so you are getting some and I'm glad you are taking it in the spirit it was offered. I think your target audience for these lifters at this price will have to be for people who love their looks over much cheaper alternatives that will do the same thing except for height adjustability maybe.

Reducing manufacturing costs is one thing but simplifying the design or manufacturing process also reduces production losses and rejections. You also have inventory that doesn't get easily dinged up while assembling or transporting.

In any case something like this will not cost a lot to manufacture.
It's the other costs - inventory, delivery, packaging etc that will have to be looked at.

I think $160 per elevator should cover all of the costs with plenty left over for profit.

These sound excellent to those that have heard them.

Thick Bamboo coasters joined with a wooden plug.

Almost $7 apiece - DIY

I think it is attractive. I like the height. I think it was Curl who measured a 4" radiated energy around a power cord he measured? I don't know the specifics. I make my own risers. I would guess many have filled the bill with their own concoction or found objects.

Much appreciate the feedback Mike B.
