My Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD's are due to arrive any day now back from the show. I'll finally be able to set them up.

I'm thinking about pairing them with a sweet little 300b amp. Air Tight 300b is the obvious choice given that I already have the Air Tight preamp, Phonostage and SUT.

But I was wondering what other suggestions people had as far as 300b amps go.

Mike,

Here is a shocker from left field. DONT use a tube amp.

Use the Job 225 or some such fast amp. My pal had a Duo for years that he just could not get right. He used BAT and Audio-Tekne, but the bass integration just was not there. Then he tried the 225 and hallelujah! It made no sense to him, as the bass in the Duo is self powered. When I spoke to a AG rep last year in Zurich and told him about this, he was not surprised. He said it was logical, because the built in bass amps only go to 150hz and the external amp takes over from there. Given the JOB225 with the sweetcord has great bass authority....

Yeah, I know you likely sold your 225 a while ago, but its a match made in heaven,,,based on all the feebcak I got. Borrow one to try...

You can always get your tube influence from the source.

WE will be great depending on the WE tubes that you use - ideally 107-s or before NOS.

You should also try the Italian Viva - gorgeous looking small stuff. Jim Smith loves them too.

For those interested, I have just received a VAC Renaissance 30/30 Push Pull 30w 300b amp with KR audio 300b valves for my veritys, and will in due course look to sell it because I love to swap stuff out with something else. US buyers might have to change the 230v to 110 though. With the KR audio valves (very expensive), and mods, can be sold for USD 4k including shipping. Without the KR audio valves, will drop to 2.5k.

I have not even heard it yet!

4 Kr audio valves, plus Tung Sol well chosen driver valves

No, don't do this. Avantgardes sound very sterile with SS big power amps. Ask Jim Smith, he will confirm that. FYI, I am soon scheduled for a Airtight vs Audionote vs Avantgarde SS amps (already heard) shootout

Oooh...really looking forward to hearing your thoughts! What audionote amp?

I've always wanted a pair.

They have sounded really good at shows that I've heard them over the years. But I've never heard them in a store or in a home environment.
