Equalizer Question

I am thinking about using a Pro Rane ME60 31 dual band graphic equalizer (they run about $700 new and have XLR in/outs) to tone down the mid bass hump of my Magnepan 1.6 speakers. It will be set and forget. I am not going to mess with any other frequencies. I will be using a room correction spectrum analyzer to locate and adjust the problem frequency. Has any one used one of these equalizers and what is your opinion on them? Please don't tell me to use room treatments because that is not going to happen due to the Wife. Unfortunately my room is all large windows with wood floor and area rug along with leather and wood furniture.

I am going to put it between my preamp and amp but can it be used between my DAC and preamp and is there any benefit in doing so?

Much thanks,

Larry

How much adjustments have you done with speaker location in room and just as importantly, listening chair location in room? Those simple things, along with some properly targeted room treatments would be my first plan of action. Maybe you've done that already, but inserting an EQ would be a drastic measure IMO. But if that is the direction you go, I'd suggest the D-Speaker Anti-Mode unit instead. Full on DSP will have much better end result than an EQ.

Thanks, I have tried different speaker placements to no avail. Room treatments are out of the question per my wife. She has been very tolerant of having the door sized speakers in our family room which has turned into my man cave.

That Manley looks great. But for that price, I might as well buy new speakers like some Revel Performa F52's.

The D-Speaker Anti-Mode is a better unit for your application.

Have you tried moving your listening position? By chance is your head close (within 3 feet) of a wall or other hard boundary?

Another option I'll just throw out. If you want to keep those speakers, somebody like myself (but not necessarily myself) could easily measure the speakers and design a new passive crossover to better control the issues you're having. In doing so, many other improvements could possibly be realized as well.
