Duelund Speaker Cables for High Efficiency Speakers

I’d like to hear from anyone using these speaker cables, particularly the “Duelund Dual DCA16GA tinned copper multistrand wire in cotton and oil”.

This is the cable I think may suit my high efficiency horn speakers very well as the brand has been spoken of very highly by the former Avantgarde distributors for the US and the UK.

I’m anticipating that this 16 gauge version may be better than the heavier and lighter 12 and 20 versions with my speakers, but I’d appreciate opinions. I’d also use it for the 65 cm links between main and mid horns.

One thing I’m trying to reduce is the sibilance I’m hearing at present – it’s slightly more noticeable with my new Duo XDs compared with earlier Duos and Unos. I don’t know if cable choice has any effect on this but worth asking.

At present I have the choice of:

Cabledyne Reference Silver (all silver)
Signal Cable Ultra (copper - bi-wire)
Chord Odyssey (silver plated copper - bi-wire and single-wire)
Cables marked Gotham GAC-SPK 2x2.5mm (unknown, unused and untested)

Or should I stick with one of these? I must admit, I hear very little difference between the first 2 above despite their very different construction – and length. If Duelund is likely to be superior for sound and not too stiff, I’ll go for a set but other suggestions welcome.

my speakers are 97 dB -- so, not 107 db but also not 83 dB either...

i have used the DCA16GA and liked it a LOT ...one thing in particular that struck me on first listen was that any glare or harshness in the upper frequencies was gone. i have since gone on to 12 awg tinned-copper conductors for speaker cable which i prefer. the great thing about the duelund and other tinned-copper wires is that they are comparatively inexpensive so you can experiment with different guages and manufacturers until you find what works best for you

If you want to reduce sibilance I would consider something like the Cardas Parsec. Very high build quality with great bass, smooth midrange and extended but smooth highs. George Cardas made his classic series of cables to counter the digital edge when cd's first came out. Good luck.

Methinks that this comes down to personal taste.

The Cardas have always been smooth in the top end.

A long time ago - from 2000-2005 - when I was the North American Avantgarde Acoustic distributor, I always used Cardas cables at my facility and at every show, where we consistently won Best Sound Awards with - IIRC - Cardas Golden Reference cables.

These days, I like the Duelund 12 ga. A higher ME factor - Musical Engagement.

I have a 16 ga and dual 12 ga in my system with Avantgarde Mezzo XD.

I never had any sibilance problem on my system so can't tell you that part however I found the 16 ga sounds smoother vs dual 12ga sounds more robust. Love them both.

Paul - Can I ask what you mean by 16 ga vs "dual" 12 ga? I have some short sample lengths of Duelund DCA16GA pre-made as 2 core wires (both insulated in black) within a single outer jacket. I'm using them as jumpers from the mid-horns to the amp connectors. They seem pretty lightweight, but I don't condemn them for that.

As my principle cables are much heavier solid silver ones (Cabledyne Reference Silver), I could:

1. Stick with Cabledyne main cables plus existing DCA16GA jumpers
2. Stick with Cabledyne main cables but use DCA12GA for jumpers
3. Use DCA16GA throughout
4. Use DCA12GA throughout
