Dropping your Cell Phone

I guess I have been pretty lucky over the years. I have been using the same old flip phone for 10 years now and always keep it in a leather belt pouch. I may have dropped it between 6 and 10 times over all those years and only a few on pavement getting out of my car.

I regularly watch people with the huge Smart Phones drop theirs sometimes several times a day. They break them and have to go buy another for $XXX and do it again. Most people hold them in their hand all day or put it someplace not out of the way and break their screens.

So I have sometimes silently snickered to myself watching it happen. Then there are the ones you hear about where they had to replace it because they dropped it in the toilet. I could never imagine how that happens, unless it's in the back pocket and gets jarred pulling up ones pants. I always laughed about that many times to myself too.........until yesterday :exciting:

I have no idea how I did it but I somehow stood up and smacked the bottom of the case hard enough to pop the magnet, lift the flap up and allow the phone to fly right into the toilet. Yikes!

My reflex reaction time is pretty good and I think I beat the 5 Second Rule......if that applies here :). I grabbed it before it sank, quickly dried it some with a paper towel, popped open the back and removed the battery and then tried the trick I have always heard about....I put it into a bag of white rice and sat it outside in the 88 degree afternoon heat for a few hours.

I then cleaned it as thoroughly as I could, and popped out all the stuck now brown rice....just kidding. I put the battery back in and it fired right up with no issues. I decided not to try and charge it overnight just in case there was any residual water stuck in the charging slot. So far it's fine, but it was a huge scare and I really didn't want to have to run out to buy a phone and new plan before I go on vacation Friday.

So what is your worst Phone story?

I have never broken any of my phones. Unfortunately I did drop and break my wife's phone on our recent European vacation and cracked the glass near the top. She had asked me to take her photo and I wasn't used to handling her rounded iPhone 6. Just another reason why I am sticking with the smaller and less rounded 5SE.

She had removed her case for the trip to better fit her travel purse. I don't like the bulk of a case.

Her phone is still useable so she will wait for the new 7 to be released around September.

I set my iPhone down on the front deck of my bass boat and forgot it was there. I then fired up the motor and headed down the lake, about the time I hit 60mph the phone flew past my head and into the lake!

Bye bye iPhone.

Ouch! I feel your pain. I was on a 31' Tiara yacht I was think about buying in 2001. In the slip (no wave motion) I dropped my cell phone into the drink. My wife says that was a bad omen and I should have listened to her. God gives us wives to point out our blind spots and our weaknesses. It is a good thing I didn't consult her about high end audio!
