Dire Straights SACD sounds better than my 180 Vinyl...

Remember it was recorded at 16/44.1 PCM, multi-track. The original SACD is horribly compressed and peak-limited, the MFSL not at all.

Has anyone else compared the two formats with the
Brother in Arms SACD versus new 180 Vinyl??

Thanks for any input.

45 RPM version or 33? Which model Project table do you have and what cartridge?

Concept table and Clearaudio Maestro v2 cartridge.

Not the best, but a very respectable unit.

Now my Cafe Blue sounds better on Vinyl but it was recorded differently than my SACD on inspection.

45 or 33 for your BIA vinyl??

33 and a problem of the Mono button in the on position.
A re-test is in order.

I think the Maid got me. "Again"

Hope you wife doesn't find out. It didn't work out too well for Arnold. Seriously, let us know after you listen in stereo. The 45 RPM MoFi version is the bomb.

The SACD has a much fuller sound. Maybe it's not the same recording on both.

Thanks for any input.

For every recording I have in both digital and vinyl, sometimes the vinyl sounds best, sometimes the digital, sometimes I can't tell the difference. There is so much manipulation of the original master all the way to creating a record or creating the finished digital file that has the ultimate say in which format sounds the best. Typically, I buy vinyl that was originally recorded in analog as much as possible and buy digital that was originally recorded digitally again, as much as possible. That generally gets me the best sounding in either format, but not always.
