Went to play some music on Christmas Eve and it turned out my server was turned off.

I use a Synology DS1515+ with 5 WD 4TB red drives. The 1515 is plugged into a power backup that was working fine. The 1515 would not power back on.

After some internet research Synology has had problem with the Intel Atom C3000 Clock on the mother board. At the 16-36 month time they shutoff and that is the end. Mine is 30 months old.

Apparently they have been very good about replacing the units without any push back. They even extend the warranty to 36 months.

Supposedly there is no damage done to the drives when this happens.

I filed my claim today and hoping for the best.

Has anyone else experience with the Synology unit failure?

Brad.......This is a royal pain in the ass. If you knew that model of Synology NAS was prone to failure, were you hoping to somehow be exempt? Synology is a respected company so hopefully they will do what's right to solve your issue quickly.

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like things will get squared away, keep us posted

I own one DS214. Thinking about buying a second one and run it as a back-up for the first one. Somewhere offsite.

I've been using a DS211+ since forever, it has never failed me except being a bit outdated spec-wise these days, I've had 2 harddrives that has died during this time, but so easy to just hot swap and replace them. Your disks and all data should be safe, which is the most important.

Heard back from Synology late yesterday. There was no hesitation on their part to send me a new/rebuilt replacement 2nd day UPS. They sent a return shipping label for the deceased one. Hopefully it will ship soon.

I was actually forced to walk across the room and pick up a CD and put it in a machine. I starred at the remote for my MPS-5 trying to remember which buttons to select the player over the DAC. Manual work is so inhumane :-).

All turned out fine listening to early John Hartford.

Five days from contacting Synology and I am back up and listening with a replacement DS1515+. That is amazing customer service.

A replacement that fast? Wow! Nice. Glad you’re back up and running. 2019 is already looking good for you.
