Two really informative videos Danny just made about the Wilson Watt Puppy 8.

Video 1 with initial measurements.

Look at that frequency response before Danny fixed it. Talk about a lumpy frequency response. Yeesh. 😖

Also, in places, the impedance curve drops down to...2 ohms. Good lord. 😦

I don't know what Wilson was thinking. Oh, wait, maybe they weren't...

Video 2 after Danny fixed all the problems:

This video has gone viral. I’ve had more than a few people call me to comment.

Can't say I'm surprised. I don't know what Wilson was thinking they designed that "puppy". 😜

comment about what, everyone has a opinion, pretty classless tho that another speaker manufacturer would do this tho IMO
Everything that Danny spoke to and presented in his video was not an opinion, they were facts and data.

What was classless was that Wilson would release a speaker at this price point with such poor materials, measured performance, as well as using cheap steel, ferromagnetic parts in the crossover assembly.

how do you figure, im not a fan of Wilson at all, but they designed, built and released this speaker, NO one was made to buy them, so clearly many like them, anything can be made better, anything, so unless Wilson claimed this and that within the crossover network was used but wasn't than they did no wrong.

personally, I believe in using the best parts we can in our networks, makes a world of difference but there's a significant cost to do so

Yes and no , he does weigh and skew things towards his point of view , the uninitiated usually fall for it , this is no different than having the class D forum measure your favorite toob amps and then
Declaring them deficient in design..!

There are design causes and effect in Audio , you can have speakers measure identical and sound different , his improvements can be portrayed as being technically sound , unfortunately this doesn’t always translate to better sound most of the time, if it was that simple , there wouldn’t be 1000 different speaker brands on the market.

So , I kind of stop listening when He proposed driving the bass units with a class D amp separate from the head module , that is a clueless approach to improving that particular speaker design, the one voice characteristics would be lost and while I can agree on changing the original crossover design hard to say without massive amount of data including voicing if what he is providing is gonna please those liking the original sound ..!

+2db /-3.5db across the 500-20k region if memory serves might look bumpy on a 5db grid , means naught when actually listening as most listeners are not that sensitive to the variations , as they are not wide enuff in bandwidth
..

I’m more concerned with the out of bandwidth responses and impedance mag/phase plots which will affect the sound drastically from amp to amp ..!

Regards

Danny always loses me when he makes a comment stating that his speakers will give the best sound at any price point. While I have no doubt that his designs measure and sound good, that statement is preposterous.

The WP8 is going on 20-yrs and hardly represents Wilson's best work altho it was the brainchild of Dave himself. I think the current models are designed by people in the background with stronger engineering chops. If you speak with early WP owners they were revered for other things like transparency, a smooth amplitude response? not so much. If you think Danny pooh poohed the WP, he destroyed the Eggleston. Makes you wonder if those guys even own a voltmeter.

They were thinking they were not interested in losing 5db sensitivity..!

For a start ..!
