For anyone with an Aurender that has this option it is worth enabling. Mike has mentioned this in a few threads and it DOES improve the sound.

What is the point of 'critical listening mode'? It would seem that it should be the default, and only, mode.

Not exactly. Some people like the display on and the pretty graphics. Others, turn it off entirely.

“Critical Listening Mode is a feature that allows the user to defeat any background tasks and circuitry that are non-essential to playing music. By defeating the display illumination and disabling other background functions, system resources are reduced for the best possible sound quality.”

I think that this might be good way to do a blind listening test:
Sit down and listen (without looking) while someone else does the display on/display off test.
The listener has to pick which sounds he/she likes best.
Anyone wants to try and share his/her findings?

I keep the lights with all my gear turned off since I prefer it that way. I didn't realize I was in 'Critical Listening Mode'. :)

No need. The results will be predictably 50/50 or close to that number... The point that the feature is there for comfort is good enough.

I’ve compared listening with the display off vs Critical Listening Mode on my N20 and there is a marked difference between the two modes. The improvement of the CLM is immediately apparent and appreciated.

Paul I don’t think so. I cannot remember seeing it when I had mine. It must be a new feature on the current models. Maybe Mike will know for sure.

We don’t have a 100H here. I don’t remember seeing it either.

The N100H doesn't have CLM. I have the N100H and an ACS10 - the ACS10 has it. It's located in the "Advanced" section - at the very bottom.

I wondered if CLM was introduced in one of the firmware updates.

I found it on my ACS10 under "Display". I looked under Advanced but couldn't locate it.
