Hey guys! Been busy writing a term paper for a class I am in right now (Consumer Behavior - LOVE the class!). My paper is on Wilson Audio (we could pick any topic, I thought it would be fun to learn more about the consumer behavior behind my parent's company :) )

I thought (if it's OK with Mike) to reach out, and get some input from you guys (plus I thought it would could spur on a fun conversation ;) )

Q1: What do you think Wilson Audio's "Brand Personality" is? (which means: to interpret the brand as having a "human personality"). An example: Levi's - "tough", "durable", and "simple")

Q2: What do you think Wilson Audio's "Brand Attitude" is? (Which means: an individual's overall evaluation or attitude of the brand/your own perceptions regarding the brand)

I need one positive and one negative answer for each question from your own experience, or from what you have heard/read about Wilson Audio over the years (feel free to include a short explanation of why you picked that word or short statement).

Feel free to be honest. I hear negative things about Wilson Audio all the time. It is good feedback, and info really. So, don't hold back worried you will hurt my feelings. You won't! :)

Thank you all SO much for your help!! School work - gotta love it :scholar:

A1: Professional.
A2: Arrogance. Sorry, but Peter oozes this. I witnessed his rudeness and arrogance first hand at RMAF 2013. Add to that the stories I hear....oh boy.....and he is often seen as the face of Wilson. Darryl and you are WONDERFUL. Knowing that you don't really want a major role, Darryl should be the new face of Wilson with a long, timely hand off from your wonderful Dad.

+ Dedication to sound reproduction. ...Always in search for improvement. ...Solid name.

- Robotic looks. ...Too many sharp (square) angles, not enough gentle, curved, smooth feminine lines.

+/- Expensive, overpriced? You could say that too. ...All relative depending on the customers.

Company integrity - backs products

Industrial

Bad attitude - the feeling that everything else sucks and if you have different tastes you are an idiot and don't like music. From shows and dealer events.

More to the point:

1. Personality (+): Reputation (steel). ...Longevity. ...Dedication.
(-): Lack of innovation, of financial competitiveness, afraid of new changes.

2. Attitude (+): Personality (character). ...Competitive. ...Connected.
(-): Squarish, automated, snobbish.

* These are very vague terms, and not to be taken too seriously like some people who too often do.

Q1 Brand Personality:

+ Uncompromising/perfectionist
- Elitist/eschewing broader appeal

Q2 Brand Attitude:

+ Well-designed/engineered. quality, evolutionary
- Over-engineered, lack of true innovation in design principles (goal is to perfect known design principles with each iteration but where is the break-through thinking in form factors, materials used, driver designs, etc...)?

Very interesting, guys! THANK YOU for being so open forthright with your answers. Helps A LOT! :)

You don't have too many replies Deb; it's normal because on the internet most people are usually shy.
They keep the good and the lesser good to themselves. :)

If you would have asked about what we think of the person behind the name; you, we would have said 100% perfect with nothing minus. ;)

A company (business) is run by a team of people with incentives, ideas, goals. ...And no company is perfect; not Apple, not Microsoft, nobody.
But you, you are always super nice with great questions. :D

Oh I can think of a LOT of minus's with me, Bob! But you are very sweet to think that ;)

But (since you brought it up) I can throw that out there: What do you guys think of me hangin' around forums, and Wilson Audio having a presence on several various "social sites"? Do you think I represent Wilson Audio well? I have been criticized for being "too nice", for the use of all my emoticons :weird:

The idea of the use of social media at Wilson Audio was not adopted ... "enthusiastically" by many at Wilson Audio. Maybe because for a long time Facebook and Twitter were seen as places only college kids used....? I think most at WA have accepted it now, which is good ;)

It's funny that you just mentioned 'emoticons' (smileys) because me too on several occasions I was reprimanded for using them, and even for welcoming new members! ...Not here of course; @ other audio sites. Some people don't like it when being nice; they see forums as a place to argue for who is the most accurate in their knowledge.
Any chance they have to put you down, or prove their superiority, or try to be your Daddy, or to show their intellectual skills, or feel good about themselves first, etc., etc., etc., they seem to relish in it.
And some people are snobs without knowing it, I believe. They don't necessarily act like it, but they think like them.

I am very frank, and I said to you before Deb; I miss you (we miss you) after only few days of not seeing you around.
And that is exactly the way I feel towards you because you are a very nice, friendly, humorist, sweet person, and in these days and age this is a quality to search for as it is becoming extinct.

You are the perfect person to bring humanity, deeper respect to the Wilson name; excellent spokesperson, as your Dad.

My only wish is to see some Wilson Audio speakers with amazing sound for the less financially calibrated. But I do understand the business and I respect it.

Music is the love of everyone ♪

And being nice with everyone is the biggest knowledge of them all. That, you have in spades.

Be wary of social media. For a lot of people it is a record of relevant negatives/slants, that they will drag up to use against you. Tread carefully & be nice is very prudent advice! For every positive & kind doing on the net, it is tenfold with the negative as most fixate & remember it.

Kev, you are right; some people will use any negative and build upon it. ...They'll destroy you from their wrong undoing (misinterpretation), or from wrong judgement, or falsified rumors.
Hey, some people cannot respect other's different opinion! ...They cannot accept criticism. If you don't fit their criteria you're out! ...Story of our lives on a loop. :D

But the truth is superior to any minuses, and true love always conquers.
Don't ever give up your true you, and your good cause to others.

* Good philosophy for any good company.

Great reviews on Wilson speakers abound everywhere (I am full of audio mags with them @ home).

And since meeting Deb on audio forums I gained more human respect for the Wilson family.
Debby has the right approach; 100% certainty. ...We learn more good stuff about the name and the history behind.
...About her family, the team, the work, their dedication, and all that jazz. :)

And she's very smart; she knows how to gather info for a better tomorrow.

Debby - your social media leadership for Wilson Audio and continued participation in social media is a breath of fresh air. First, I'm certain that your active participation has headed off more than a few situations which could have got out of control (hello Magico, are you listening?). Second, as a lady, you offer a unique perspective on things and keep us guys on our toes (while laughing at us half the time I'm sure)

Some companies, like Raidho, have utilized social media to review direct feedback from their customers to in turn, build a better product or fix one. This in my eyes, is a big positive. We know they are very busy, but appreciate any and all their input.

Social media is a great place for education, sharing and learning. I know he gets into a few disagreements sometimes, but I have learned more than a few things from Caelin at Shunyata.

There are some companies who haven't quite figured out how to properly use social media. Social media is not a place for young, startup manufacturers to tell us their products are the best, everyone else's sucks and if everyone doesn't agree, we are all idiots (hello polymer).

I think every company should be using social media, and forum participation, much much more. But I suspect more don't because they are afraid. Afraid of the few knuckleheads who will just speak nonsense and act like fools. But, that's the job of the moderators to ensure that doesn't happen. We want audio manufacturers - all of them - participating, discussing, engaging with their customers - and hopefully posting lots and lots of pictures! Heck, it's free - why not?

If someone wants to follow an example of how to do social media for high end audio, just look at James Tanner from Bryston.

Anyway, we are super glad you are here and don't be afraid to tell us what music you're listening to, what movies you're watching and what new amp you just heard....oh, and more photos of a "day in the life" at Wilson Audio!

Wow... Deb, take this with the fact that I <3 you - so here it goes:

Brand Personality: Actually you helped develop this from an old geezer-type to more modern and intriguing. The personality would be Id-focused, something considered lust-worthy. Definitely keep that up and certainly do more to attract a younger crowd. You have introduced a more "down-to-earth" philosophy that is attractive to a far wider clientele, and the firm (and dealers) should follow your lead.

Brand Attitude: Still remains stiff, stuffy, and "the old white boys club." This doesn't help that just about every dealer or demo room at a show that had WA was just absolutely arrogant and/or incompetent with setup (all they wanted to do was dump product and say how great it was and that you were stupid if you thought WA didn't sound perfect every single time) - again; you've helped correct this with your persistent (and unbelievably well focused) presence. I suppose if you are in that specific demographic you feel at home - but that is a niche within a niche within a niche.
