I have updated power cables and interconnects on main viewing systems in the house, but the one cable not updated is the coaxial, I wonder why this has gone untouched by manufacturers?

Coax cable is used for lots of different purposes in audio/video systems:
RCA analog audio
RCA digital audio
RCA video (several)
FM antennas
TV antennas
Cable TV
Satellite TV

I'm assuming you are talking about the coax that either comes from the pole for cable or a satellite dish. In short, I think it's like the electric, you get what you get.

Actually, it has changed at one point, they did use RG8 and now use RG59. I hope I didn't get that mixed up. The ends and the center wire look the same, the 59 looks to have a heavier shielding but I suspect there's more to it than that.

I've never had it but fiber optic was, or still is, being used in some cable systems.

They don't want to change it and deprive you of the fun you have threading the coax on the connecter to tighten it up, LOL.

I doubt if you want to pay for a few hundred feet of upgraded coax cable for the TV. I found that upgrading the power cord on my 75” RCA TV made a major improvement in the picture quality.

I used a Shunyata cord that was unused after upgrading the stereo. The only issue was the TV power cord was hardwired to the TV, so I had to splice a power cord socket into the TV cord where it went into the TV. Even with all that, the Shunyata made a big improvement to the picture quality.

The coax that I get from the cable TV provider is very suitable for that purpose!
But don't use it for a DIY audio interconnect.
