Cartridges

I just got back into vinyl. I'm 47. I just got a project debut III . It came with ortofon om5e and I'm not real happy with the sound. It really lacks bass, and sounds WAY too bright. I picked up a couple at cartridges, slt88e and an at402pe. Before I try them, is one better?

Welcome to AS. Do you know if the VTA of the arm is set correctly? If it is tipped up too much (the counterweight end is higher than the head shell end), it will sound brighter and lack bass.

Take a picture if you can of the cartridge on the record. I want to see the arm angle.

Let's check that first before thinking about a new cartridge.

You may also want to check the tracking force. Do you have a gauge?
