I will be going to hear the Luxman PD171 table next month. I'm waiting for my dealer to get their demo 0/96's, and then I will go to hear the Luxman. If I buy the table, it will coexist with my WT Amadeus GTA. I currently have a Tsd-15, which isn't going anywhere unless I go up the EMT line. I'm looking for cartridge suggestions. The game plan is to move the Tsd-15 on to the Luxman, which I plan to order with a JELCO 750.
Then I would buy a different cartridge for the Amadeus.
I am open minded to anything that doesn't take it too far toward the all leading edge/no body camp.
The Benz TR is interesting, but it is more suited to the Homage T1, low impedance SUT. Ideally, I
want something that will sing with my T2. Cheers -Don

I would suggest an SPU direct in the MC stage of your Shindo preamp. That will give you a realy different taste from the T2/TSD15.
Some of my recordings clearly sound better with the SPU classic GM MK2 ( Elliptical stylus) than with the T2 / TSD15. I also use the T2 with my Lyra Delos and my 103 ESCo.
The SPU / Shindo is really tasty.

Suggesting cartridges is like suggesting anything else in this crazy hobby, it's so personal. If you have the EMT maybe try something that may be a bit more detailed for a different flavor. Lyra would be one to check into. Perhaps a Benz Lp-S.

I've been giving alot of thought to SPU's. I heard that from current offerings,
the ROYAL SPU (not the N) strikes a nice balance. I have also thought about
an EMT in the original head shell, which I assume would sound different than
my beloved Tsd-15 SFL. I would like to stay with the T2, or let's just say, I'm
not springing for a T1. Notice I didn't say NEVER (-:

Don, you may want to consider a cartridge that works really well with the Shindo MC stage but is not the typical SPU.

The Dynavector I am using fits the Shindo phono stage spec's and the results are excellent. No need to buy another SUT. Just a thought.

JJ, Good suggestion. I have the Dynavector 20X2L on my LP12 plugged into the MC input of the Giscours. It's a gem and a lot of cartridge for the money.

I noticed you also have the AMG table which I have thought about. I have a fully spec'd LP12 with the Naim Aro tonearm and Dynavector TKR....A very nice sound, but I have wondered about the AMG---- How would you compare it to you LP12?

Thank you,
Ken

Ken, The AMG/Etna combo surpasses all my expectations. I absolutely LOVE it! My original plan was to trade the LP12, but in the end I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I will look for a strategy to use both... Maybe put an EMT on the Linn. It's impossible to fairly compare the two with the Etna on one and the 20X2 on the other. I'd bet the Linn/Kandid might give the AMG a good fight.

My dealer in Dallas is Audio Concepts. They have been demoing these tables against each other for the last couple of years. You might be able to get some good information from them.

Thanks for the suggestions. Bill- I have a 20X/L as well. Very nice, even handed cartridge. It has good weight, but not for one who has to have that last ounce of detail. I sold my backup turntable, so my 20X is back in it's box for now. Variety can be the spice of life in this game. It seems like having more than one amp is fairly common. For me, it will be a turntable. I do prefer the 20X/L through the T2, over the Monbrison MC. Quite a few DV cartridges here (-:

On more of the "budget" side, excellent results here with a Zu/Denon 103/ Auditorium 23 SUT/ Aurieges MM. Turntable is a WTL Amadeus.

Thanks Mick- I have only tried 20X/L and tsd-15, but the WT arm is very versatile as I understand it. Word has it that the Denon's like high mass, but I guess WT handles them well.

I wonder if the ROYAL gmII (BELOW) would have good synergy with the Homage T2? Notice it's IMPEDANCE is 6 ohm. Their 95th Anniversary and SYNERGY
cartridges for examples, are 2 ohms.

I've found that Keith A. ( Auditorium 23) responds to e-mail in a timely manner. I'd say between him and Jonathan, ( Tone) you'd probably get a good assessment on the cartridge/ T2 compatibility issue. On the WTA, the arm has yet to meet a cartridge it didn't like.....at least the few I've personally tried. I use a heavy XTC counterweight with the Zu. Another option here for heavier carts such as the Zu( 14-15 g) is to use both WTA supplied counterweights. The 30g cartridge you mention may be a bit over the top in weight with regard to the WT arm. A good question for Mike Pranka the WT distributor.

I ran mine straight in to my preamp too. But let me tell you that the T2 was nothing short of fantastic.

Thank you very much for the feedback
