These three cables were recommended to me by a well known company with a cable library for my combo of

( MT10, C2300, MC275 x2, SF Elipsa SE) to try

1. Synergistic Research Element Series Cables (Tungsten)
2.Cardas Clear or Clear Light
3. MIT Matrix series.

Has anyone used any of these threee with a similar set up;

Bill

Bill. Any chance to loan some cables from friends or dealer ? My Elipsa was so picky about the cables If my memory serves me correct I went through about 5 different brands. Do not listen to what people say unless they have/had a same or similar set up. ( Not intention to point anyone here ) coz it's all about the synergy with your system and what kind of sounds you are after

Bill, Paul is right, try to borrow the cables from friends or find a dealer that would loan you just for trial purpose. For me, here's a company where I get my cable and I'm very happy with them. I'm not suggesting to buy their cables but you can read some of the reviews about them from their site here: Cables Products Page

Try Nordost first. That would be my recommendation. Nordost would be the Ying to the Mc/Sonus Faber Yang.

I've also heard good things about the new Wireworld Platinum 7 speaker cables. Not sure about the IC's.

Ansuz is another brand to consider. Similar to Nordost.

Lastly, Shunyata if you want a strictly neutral cable.

A dealer friend that sells Mac and SF likes Cardas Clear / Clear light. He also sells Nordost but recommends the Cardas.

Bill. Here are my impression with my set up. ( SF Elipsa with C2300 & 275's )

1. Cardas Golden Reference ( Clear wasn't exist ) - Sound little thin to my ears

2. Purist Audio Design - Extend the high and bass quiet a bit but with little less warm

3. Siltech - Very neutral but I wanted little more weight

4. Kimber KS series - I still own them :)

5....can't remember....

Right now I would regard my system as "very warm" would not want warmer. extending bass would be a benefit.

Furutech Silver Arrows Phono Cable for MT10. :woot:

Much like Siltech but with more weight.

I kind of dropped the ball on the cable hunt.

What about the classic Kimber Kable 8TC. From what I read its better than lamp cord. I remember on one website that WW eclipse was supposed to be a lot better. But it sounds like it might be a good starting point for me. I do not want to start at the top or the bottom. I intend to buy used if I can. I see there is a blue and black combo as well as a copper white combo (newer). Any one with any experience?

Kimber is solid Bill. But, I would lean toward Shunyata over Kimber. I would really think Nordost or Ansuz would be a nice combo too. I'm using TaraLabs on my 275's and loving the combo.

Mike I have been so busy I did not even notice you got the 275's. Grats. Any regrets? I have not had any? Re the cables; I function under a theory that if I can get 90% for half the amount that's a good move.

Paul: I failed to click on your "set up link" before. I love what you did. Majestic!!

Bill...I would agree with Mike's recommendation of Nordost with your McIntosh and SF as something to try. Many dealers are discounting the version one models by 50% on new cabling and even more on the demo cabling. If you look at the Heimdall or Frey cables after that discount, that will put you in the Kimber 8TC SC and Kimber Hero IC cable price territory (probably with the Heimdall v1 line). But I agree with everyone, you should try to demo them in your system first before deciding on whatever cable you get. I am assuming you were talking about The Cable Co. in your original post (i.e., the ones who syggested Synergistic Research, Cardas and MIT cabling). Well as you know they have a library of cables that they loan out. So if you don't have a local dealer (or one that is willing to give you loaner cables to demo), that might be one way of trying out a bunch of different options and seeing what you like best. Good luck.

Bill - Jerry (on our forum) is selling his Nordost cables. I can ping him if you want me to.
