I just picked up an C-J ET3-SE. (Some of) You guys know me; who knows if it'll stick; but I've always wondered about the EAT tubes.

With just a single valve, I'd be willing to part with some cabbage...if it dramatically improved SQ.

Looks like the ECC88, is ~$225. Worth it?

Why not go with a real NOS Telefunken from Uncle Kevin? Or a Siemens CCa?

A CCa, has always been on the 6922 wish-list. So I guess you're saying, that's "better" than the EAT?

I can't tell you it's better than the EAT because I have never heard them. They are modern day current production Chinese tubes aren't they?

+1

I use two of the Telefunkens in my GAT. Superb

Another audio buddy has used EAT, sound good but failed after a short period of time.

I would listen for a while with whatever tube the seller provided and see what you do or don't like. There are plenty of good choices out there and a lot of them don't cost a bundle.

CD, how would you describe the sound and tone of the ET-3se? I almost bought one but went with a used BAT-VK51se instead. I still wonder if I made the right choice. The BAT's treble can be a little to hot and the sound a little bit forward with my Maggies. I like a slightly warmer and darker sound.

I hear it takes the teflon caps in the ET about 500hrs for break in. Congrats on the new preamp.

For small tubes

Call Andy Bowman @ vintage tube services

IMO- the Best tube guy in the business - No one tests tubes like Andy and is very familiar with many Pre-Amps and power amps!
