Hi all.

I hope someone can help me understand what's happening here.

I have a Rotel RA 04 SE amp, a Rotel RP 1500 turntable and a pair of Goodmans Goodwood speakers.

The phono channel of the amp is kicking out a lot of buzz/hum. The hum increases when the volume is turned up and is only on the phono channel.

I have tried many combinations of set up, moving everything around, different mains plugs, removing any other electronics etc. The grounding cable is connected properly. The only way I can get this buzz to go away is to physically place the turntable on top of the amp!

Okay, so this is great as a fix so I can listen to my records, but I would like to understand what's happening and ultimately move the turntable somewhere else!

Does any one have any idea why this would happen?

Many thanks,
A

Is there perhaps a ground loop? Try running a ground cable from the amp chassis to the TT. Leave the other ground wire plugged in. There could also be something preventing a solid ground like the paint on the amp chassis. Make sure you have a solid connection with your ground wire. But, keep in mind this advice is coming from an electronics novice. My 2 cents.
