I'm thinking of giving up on McIntosh. And going for a complete Bryston set up. Maybe going with Magnepan speakers.Instead of Bryston. My problem is there is no dealer in my area (metro Detroit) that carry's both lines for a listening test. Any suggestions out there. Thanks in advance for advice.

I love both McIntosh and Bryston. In the right systems, both can be superb. I will say that McIntosh is on the sweeter/softer side of the scale and Bryston, while smooth, is a little more neutral and punchier in the bass. Bryston and Magnepan is a natural pairing. I would welcome Bryston amps with a tube preamp and Magnepan speakers. My 28BSST2 amps were awesome and I really only sold them to get the new 28 Cubed amps but my Ayre amps sort of slipped in their spot. Bryston offers the best warranty, not that you'll need it. I have a soft spot for the new Bryston Cubed amps. Maybe some day. :)

joe thanks for the reply. Brystons warranty is key factor in my next purchase. My dealer can't get to my til Wed. to look at the MVP 901.

If interested in Bryston, maybe a dealer would set you up with an option to return if not satisfied. I heard a complete Bryston system at an audio show, using their own speakers, one of the better systems I heard there. I like a controlled and powerful sound though.

Another option you might want to explore would be Pass which to me would fall somewhere between the Mac and Bryston in warmth vs. neutrality.

The closest Bryston dealer for me in metro Detroit is Stereoland in Windsor, Ontario, CA. Wonder how hard it would be to purchase Bryston and clear Customs?

Maybe you can reach out to James Tanner here on the forum and ask him if there is something he can do to facilitate either a demo or purchase. I know companies like Music Direct and Audio Advisor offer 30/60 day money back guarantees. That's certainly an option.

I've purchased, and, had items shipped from Canada with no extra charges but never walked anything over the border.

I thought there was a Bryston dealer in the Chicago area, they are usually represented at Axpona. In fact, if you want to visit Axpona I bet you can find a dealer. Plus, audition them and other fine products. Coming 4/21, www.axpona.com I'd have to go look but maybe acousticsounds.com carries Bryston, I was thinking they did at one point.
