As my question indicated, I've read Bryston's post about DSD and understand its reasoning. But, my primary question remains unanswered:

What array of Bryston components, with mod SSD, would match, without DSD, a Sony HAP-Z1ES? What advantages would the Bryston components have?

Thanks for any help.

The Sony is a one box solution of digital file player and DAC, along with an internal hard drive. It does not provide a digital output so you cannot use another DAC.

Bryston offers stand alone components, so to match the Sony, without DSD, you would use the BDP-2 (or BDP-1) digital file player, and the BDA-2 DAC. This provides the flexibility to upgrade a part as something better comes along. The drawback is, if you believe in this stuff, you will need to upgrade the stock power cords, and purchase a good digital cable to connect the BDP-2 to the BDA-2.

Personally, I have two BDP-1 file players, a BDA-1 and a BDA-2.
